What is with these people?  Year end commissions?  My phone rang at 730 this morning and had all zeros on the display.  I didn't answer it but they left a message and said it was AOL offering me an exclusive special.   How inconsiderate.

I got two calls today from this number...I guess New Years Day is not a holiday for telemarkers.  They left a message and it was AOL trying to get me to sign on for some new VoIP exclusive special.  They left 1-888-256-8001 for me to call and I looked it up - it's them alright...how sad that they resort to such low down trick to get your business...but not mine!

I keep getting calls from 000 000-0000. Usually no one says anything if I answer. They have only once left a message, looking for someone other than me. It is my cell phone, and I do not know the person they are looking for. When I called back, and demanded that my name be removed from whatever list it was on, they assured me that it had been done. It hadn't, and I continue to get these calls. It's driving me crazy, and I wish I knew what I could do about it. I called my cell phone provider (verizon), and they said that I can't block a number, but can change my number instead. Why should I have to do that!!! There has to be a way from preventing these people from harassing others.

And what good is that?  How many people don't answer your calls thinking your a low life telemarketer...

Well that's a dumb thing to do.  Then again, if people don't like you when they see it's you calling, I guess you have to resort to low down measures.  I take it you don't have many friends?

I started getting these calls a two weeks ago but never bother to answer.  The would leave a message to call them back stating they had a very important message for me.  I finally called the number to so that they would take me off their calling list.  Turns out, it was AOL trying to offer me some new service.  What a low down marketing practice.

Call from this number began in December but I never answered it.  Last night, I picked up the phone without looking and it was a collection agency for Mac Tools.  I never bought Mac Tools and have no idea how they got my number but they were very rude and said that I could be charged if I didn't make payment.  Since they had the wrong name, and address, I told them to go ahead and press charges since they've obviously got the wrong person.

the call came from Mac Tools thinking I owed them money.  We lost our mac seller three years ago, haven't seen one since and I don't owe them anyting.  These people are clueless...It's no wonder they're going out of business.

AOL keeps calling and leaving messages under this number asking me (in broken english) to come back to their network.  Its sad that a company with the word "Ameerica" in their name won't hire Engish speaking Americans to do their dirty work.

Our local radio station was talking about spoof phone numbers and other number most abused by unprofessional businesses.  They mentioned this one and I had to Google it to see what it was.

I received a call from this number. It was a recording to answer 10 questions. Then it tells u to push one to speak to a person, because you have won 2 free tickets for a cruise. When I did that I had a young guy come to the phone and asked me my name, address, phone number and postal code. He then replied back the city I was in, and said to listen to this recording about going to this web site www.yoursurvey.com, to see my free cruise no such site exists.

Well, congratulations, you just gave them all the info they needed to verify you exist so they can sign you up for endless telemarketing calls, door to door sales, and about every type of pestering marketing media that ever existed.  If I were you, I'd move...

Got an automatic voice recording from,
the captain, win two free cruise tickets, do a survey.
caller ID was 000-000-0000.

It's this:
Imperial Magesty Cruise Lines
1-800-441-6858 .  www.surveycruise.com
and www.yoursurveyrewards.com.
Don't give them info they don't have though.
Saw at another post that Imperial Magesty Cruise Lines is also associated with Ramada Plaza Resorts.

Our radio station did a talk show on fake numbers this morning so I used Google to see if this number really belongs to anyone.  Its mostly used by shady businesses and folks looking to steal identies.

Rule of thumb, if you can't identify who's calling, never answer.  If it's really important, they'll leave a message so you can call back.

Good general rule of thumb - but do check for voicemail.  Got a call from this number and it was Blockbuster.  Their computer did leave a message telling me I had an overdue video checked out.  I assumed from the odd number that it was someone selling something and skipped the message until I almost bought the video by default...which wouldn't have been a huge deal since it was a good movie, but I digress.

If I could sum up for folks...these calls are either from a computer-generated messaging system = why it hangs up when you answer, or from someone who doesn't think you'd want to answer if you knew who it was...no conspiracy, rather the cell phone equivalent of "number unavailable" and/or the human population being replaced by machines.  Wait, that is a conspiracy.
