- Rippedofff265-019 and 265-060 AIM Text messages
265-019 and 265-060
Both husband & I have VERIZON cell phones. Mine is my own, and his is from the Co. he works for.
Suddenly over past few days BOTH of us are getting Texts from 265-019 and 265-060 trying to Sell us Penny Stocks!!
Cld, Verizon and 2 different Cust.Serv. Reps said they can BLOCK these 5 or 6 digit "Short Codes" from Texting us. I for one do not have Texting as part of my Rate plan so have to PAY for any Texts that come in!
However, here's the Bigger issue. - Verizon calls these Text messages a "Premium Service" and says they are from "3rd Party Vendors". Well, anyone knows that a 3rd Party vendor is someone who is affiliated with you in SOME way. Usually by Contract/Agreement to either give them your info. or to let them try to Sell to you. It's a friendly exchange of information.
When Verizon was questioned as to Why & How these '3rd Party Vendors' GET our Cell phone numbers, Verizon tried every which way but, to avoid like the Plague, answering the question straight-up!
Instead they told us that each of us must have gone to some Website and GIVEN them our cell ph #'s. NO, not EVER, NEVER EVER did that happen!!! NO WAY! DIDN'T happen! THAT is a LIE. So Verizon is LYING to us/YOU, when they tell you that.
Now on my own Verizon #, the CSR's said they could Block all 5 or 6 digit "Short Codes" from Texting us anymore. First they looked AT MY ACCOUNT and said "Gee, looks like you aren't Subscribed to that PREMIUM Service". They consider these Unsolicited SALES Text messages a "PREMIUM Service"!!! Are you kidding me???
But the call to Verizon regarding the Company owned Cell ph#, was transferred to a Business or Commercial Cust. Serv. Rep at Verizon and she acted like she had no idea that a Block could be done. And she also had the nerve to suggest that WE had caused this by going to a Website and entering our Cell ph #'s!! Pathetic!
Here's the really scary part. Verizon is also our Internet Service Provider. And We DID visit a Stock Market site just recently. So we sincerely fear that Verizon is actually IN ON THIS SCAM, is tracking what websites we go to, and when we hit on one they have a friendly '3rd Party' Agreement with, they either give them our info. or set-up a way to Text us, FOR them!
I call it TELEMARKETING. After all, it comes into our Cell Telephone, trying to SELL us something. Verizon however called it a "Premium Service" and the girl actually said that some people LIKE & WANT these Sales Text messages! Wow, how unbelievable is that??
My suggestion is for EVERYONE who gets these Unsolicited Sales Text messages, to CALL Verizon, 611, and to COMPLAIN, BIG TIME!! Complain, complain, complain! Flood their Call Centers with OUTRAGE against this! And MAKE Verizon BLOCK these 5 or 6 digit "SHORT CODES" for you.
And then Report it to authorities and hopefully Legal action will be taken to stop it.
BTW, Verizon suggested that we just 'Reply' back to them with 'Unsubscribe' or 'Stop'.
But isn't that Exactly the same thing and as Stupid as answering back to an Email scammer??? Now they KNOW your # is operational AND you actually READ their message, which is EXACTLY what they want! No way, we will NOT be Replying to any of these Text messages. And YOU should INSIST that Verizon do the Blocking for you! MAKE Verizon BLOCK all 5 or 6 digit "Short Codes" from your Cell phone!!!
Oh ya, when I asked Verizon 'why these Telemarketing Texting Scammers would obey a Text request to Unsubscribe or Stop, she simply tried to ASSURED me that they would. Why are they so very Sure of that, unless they actually DO have some kind of Contract/Agreement with them?? Scammers don't abide by RULES! Very suspicious indeed.
Lastly - we read another Post from someone who nicely tried to explain just what these AIM 5 or 6 digit codes are and how they get used. Apparently there's a LONG range of these numbers and they just get used randomly as each Text comes through. So you cannot say that a particular # that was for us a Scam to sell Penny Stocks, would be the exact same Text message to you. The "short codes" rotate constantly as each Text is sent. - LBHarassing text messages
