I received a message saying, I have to call the number and quote the ref.

I am Nolusindiso Qoba I received a call from you guys saying my account was not paid,  an is still owing please ,,call CREDIT WORKS 021 003 0220 /021 003 0241 and they can give you my settlement letter with  Truworths as I finished paying this account in June 28 2013 (9009300444082)

This is definitely a scam. you can tell by their English and the number used to send the text message. I have been getting similar messages and tried to check if the number exists on whatsaap but it doesn't. Besides, how does a retail company write off a debt?

Nolisindiso made a huge mistake by posting her ID numbers on the web. This is the message I received from the sender:
THE BALANCE ON UR BOUGHT TRUWORTHS ACC IS R929.82. IF YOU PAY R650.87 BY 31 OCT 2014 WE WILL WRITE OFF THE REST CALL (011) 560 4481 REF :0278000426209180

I received a sms from this number and I called them back then they asked for my identity number to double check. What should I do? Am I in danger?

This is the sms I got from the above number: "The balance on your bought TRUWORTHS acc is 2788.23. Pay R250 by 31 Mar 15 & receive R100 Airtime. Call MBD LC on (011)560-4481 Ref: 0278000426293598."
I was at first worried that it is an indication of fraud, because I do not actually own a Truworth account.
I called the Truworth phone number listed on their website to confirm. They definitely denied that the sms was coming from them. My suggestion: do not call back and give any personal details to these individuals. Its possibly a scam to get your ID etc so they can use it for fraudulent purposes.
