Received a telephone call on my landline phone from this number: 021 235 6788.
Caller had an Asian/Indian accent (female) and stated she was calling on behalf of the'Computer Centre for Microsoft' and wanted to know details about my computer.
I was immediately suspicious and stated that my computer was absolutely fine and I  put the phone down.
I then dialled 1471 to obtain the callers phone number: 021 235 6788 was obtained.
However, having searched online  to trace the origins of this phone number, all searches have returned that this number has no valid area code, nor can it be traced to any valid source.

As with previous entries , phone rang , I answered and silence at the other end . Not that 'they' would have much luck with me ~ I'm as computer literate as the Duke of Wellington . BUT I do know when someone is trying to have me over . Forewarned is forearmed ~ Thankyou everyone who has made an entry

This person has called me several times claiming to be from Microsoft and stating he is a technician to help me with malicious software and malware on my computer. This is a scam and has been reported by the BBC recently.  I politely asked him if he would like to Felate me? At which point he hung up. Here's hoping it wasn't really Microsoft. Please beware if you are not tech minded and think to inform friends and relatives, especially elderly ones with PC's as they will be easy targets. Let's get this scam out there and protect as many as possible from these bast**ds. James

i've now had two silent calls from 0212356788 - this morning about 10.30 & 11.00 - tried to use redial and number does not exist - used internet to search for 0212 / 02123  area code, code does not exist - so who are these people? and why can't the service provider who issue the number, be able to trace the user it was issed too?

A fried of mine was phoned today 19th November, at approx 10:00 A.M, from number 0212 356788. The male callers voice seemed to be either Asian or African, but it was very difficult to understand the caller. He (the caller) was telling my friend that their computer was infected with a virus, and that they would help him to fix the problem if he followed the callers instructions.
However, my friend hardly ever uses a computer, and by his own admission, is computer illiterate!!!!!!!!!!
At that point he put the phone down

I have done some investigating, and this is NOT a valid UK phone number, neither is it a Premium Rate number, also if dialled, you then realise it is an INVALID number. The UK does NOT have a CURRENT dialling code beginning with digits 021. The nearest to this is 0121, which is Birmingham, West Midlands.

    A COMPLETE SCAM!!!!
Please be aware of this for your own protection

Received a call from the # a little bit ago.  Man with an Indian accent asked for me by name.  Said he was from Online computer care and he was calling about a problem with my Windows system on my computer.  I hung up on him.

We got a call about 2 weeks ago from a local # for my area (showed on caller ID as such)  This time it was from an Indian woman who said she was from PC cares and that there was a problem with my computer that she would help me fix.  Asked me to go to my computer.  I told her we did not have a problem with our computer and that we didn't initiate any such call for help with our computer.  She stated it's a new problem that just showed up and all computers have it and she would help us with it.  Hung up on her too.

Just had the same call. Im an IT Systems Administrator including Anti Virus. I was well prepared for the conversation, after the 4th silent call! Right, they get you to open Event Viewer on your PC (windows key +R type eventvwr) and get you to check for critical warning messages (there will be at least a couple)

Then go on to say you have maintenance contracts, oh has mine run out? Yes sir, oh no... how will I cope???? WE WILL HELP YOU SIR... made me so much more relaxed (whilst I put them on hold laughing!)

Then they get you to open a fake secure remote access website to take control over your PC. The legit site is www.logmein.com (which I use regularly). The fake site is www.logmein123.com

Obviously I never did any of the above, just blagged the conversation so they could run through the script. They kept asking me what do I see so I get replying what should I see? Muppets, told me... oh yes, there it is.

They attempt to put you on hold a number of times and make it sound as though the call was terminated. My PC must be infected, the call won't disconnect (how I managed to keep a straight face I dont know, hail the mute button). Disconnected phone from wall and rang my home number a couple of times (engaged) and finally killed the connection - that bit was probably just a red herring, they phone back anyway, this time from a witheld intenational number (what my phone classes it as)

In the end I couldn't last any longer and told them what i do for a living, they missed it initially, so I enforced it again. Asked why I kept the conversation going for so long?

It was a laugh, and scammers deserve everything they get.

Never known someone to hang up so quick!!! Just phoned BT to confirm I've not been charged for anything :)

    *** CORRECTION ***
    www.logmein123.com is a legit arm of www.logmein.com

However, the scammers ask you to input a security code to then gain control of your PC.
So, the website address is legit (sorry logmein) but the users behind the "support" on this occasion are scammers.

The 6 digit code I was given was 400693

I've informed logmein and hope at least one account gets closed.

If they remotely controlled your computer, any one of several things ranging from harmless actions, as described by Goot above designed to frighten you into paying $, to installing malware is possible. It's safest to assume and proceed as if the worst case has happened (malware installed). The best thing to do in to reformat your drive and reload your OS (hope you have data backups) because it's the surest way to kill everything living on your drive. You can try scanning with several antivirus/antispyware but this isn't as safe as reformat/reload because detection rates are never 100%. If you don't know how, I suggest calling up your local high school or college for help or pay a local shop to do it. In the meantime, do not log in to any website because trojans can then steal your login credentials and disconnect from the internet so malware can't call home. Best of luck to you.

This has happened to me tonight, I had a phone call from 0212356788. they pointed out that my computer, had error warnings, they wanted me to sign-up for a year with them, would sort out my faults, then asked me for my card details, they said they were with microsoft and it had been reported out to them that i had alot of faults and viruses, which they actually went on the site to show me,
They said that the security firm I was with (Trickies) had finished and passed all clients onto this firm, they were taking over but you had to sign up for a year with them, then they would help me get my money back from Trickies..Gut reaction made me refuse but I had a job to get rid of them,( they became pushy) I then. checked with Trickies, who were still operating, they sorted my computer out that night,
I now am hoping this firm will ring tomorrow as promised.
I could so easily have lost money tonight to a scam.and I think or thought I would never be conned, how wrong I was
