They rang my mobile but did not let it ring for long, they hung up almost as soon as it started ringing. I rang back as I have clients with that area code. It was a recorded message saying "congratulations you have been selected to have a free trial of mobile phone quiz comp" or something very similiar. I didn't get the company's name as I was afraid of high call charges and hung up straight away.

some stupid quiz thing im ringing my phone provider to see if they can cancel me off anything that i have signed up to
please can some one tell me if this costs anything (the quiz thing)
and if they have got themselves off the subscription

The called me with a pre recorded trivia question, who is the Prime Minister of Australia press 1 for Kevin Rudd or 2 for John Howard. When I didn't respond it hung up.

I called the number back from a different phone and when it answered there was a recorded message that simply said "Goodbye" and hung up.

Number displayed on my phone was 0282057000

They called my mobile number at 13:07, 11th Dec, 2007.

I just let the recorded message talk - I can confirm Hayez's report of the "PM of Australia?" quiz question.

The call went for 32 seconds - perhaps an even 30 seconds for the call, and my phone lagging for 30 seconds.

Yeh I got the same call...As others have mentioned if you call them from a land line it just says,"bye".

I got this too. Just now. I pressed reply before I listened to my voicemail because I figured 02 was Sydney/Canberra. Got the trivia question but hung up right away. Something about a sample free question question. Now have to call my provider (Three) and block/report this number. Reeeeaaaaaly annoyed by this.

I got the same  call today at 13.07 also. I missed the call and phoned back nd got it just said goodbye and hung up. I phoned my provider (three)and apparently heaps of people have been reporting the calls.

Received a call on my mobile today from this number but it stopped ring quickly before I could answer it. I tried to call back on my other phone and received a recording that just said "Goodbye".
When I used my mobile (that received the call) to call the number I got the "congratulations you have been selected ..." but I hung up. This was a interstate call for me as I called NSW(02) from VIC(03), checked my call history after and found this short call cost me $0.70.
Want to complain to someone about this so I goggled this, I don't write my mobile number into competitions so one of my services must have sold their database. Grrrr

Yeah, same, 3 mobile phone.  Picked up and got that message.  You can be charged for picking up an interstate number.

I'd love to find who sold these people our numbers, perhaps we should all
record who we gave our number to recently and compare notes.

ARGH! I just had the same thing happen to me.

I picked up and it went on about the competition for a bit then asked the PM question as above.
