I got a phone call this afternoon from this number from a Robert Hughes stating he was from Microsoft and that my computer had downloaded files that were corrupting my Microsoft and would crash the computer. He wanted me to turn the computer on and he would assist me with the problem. I INSISTED I would call him back and got his number and then rang Microsoft who stated that they do not initiate calls or emails. Only the home user could initiate the contact and a return call would be made where necessary. Do not do anything if you are contacted by someone from Microsoft unless you initiated the contact.

GOT A SIMILAR CALL TODAY (3.DEC.2010).. exactly the same scenario.. He repeated exactly what is given in the earlier post HE  insisted that I perform certain steps on my COMPUTER to detect Malware and Spyware and when i got the suspicious, I asked for the telephone number and was promptly given 61290378535, which is disconnected .. this time the techie's name was Sam Rogers... stating that he is from Microsoft..
