They said that they were from the company that handled my Windows operating system and that they were receiving many messages from my computer of someone trying to hack into my computer.  Told them that I had a Mac and they hung up.

I received the same call as Nicole (Above). I asked them the name of their company and they repeated that I should be aware of my windows operating system. I told them that my computer was fine and that they were just scamming people for money, and I hung up.

Caller said he was from Windows security and had detected illegal activity on my computer. I told him he was a scam n reported it to Microsoft and Cand Anti-trust center

I received the same phone call, he kept saying you are from this ip address or one of your computers are in the house, only thing is I have my own DNS server that caches it's one unique ip's he was off base by a mile. But I played his game until he wanted me to direct my server to a .org web site. Then I told him if he thinks I'm going to take the word from a (and I say this with all respect) foreigner he really is crazy, I don't just follow instrustions like that from someone I don't even know. Could hear in the background a whole room full of people instructing other people on the phones the exact same he had asked me to do. If it isn't enough trying to fight viruses with protection software, now they  are calling trying to give it out.....
