These people call my house 24/7 with many different numbers. They are true scam artists. As everyone else has said they steal your important information and documents. They claim that 60% of nj computers are runnning slow and that they can help you fix your desktop/ labtop. No one can know if you own a labtop or if it running slow or what you download except like fbi, cia people like that. So please please be careful!!!!
    Numbers to watch out for:
    (212) 000-3459
    (123) 456-7809

THIS IS A SCAM. Read about the your-PC-is-infected-corrupted scam here http://news.softpedia.com/news/Cold-Call-Tech ... on-150170.shtml They lie about your PC sending out malware, error messages, etc., and say your PC is about to crash to frighten you into giving them remote control of your PC to fix the nonexistent problem (don't let them!). If they ask you to open the systems tab in eventvwr.msc to see all the errors, these harmless errors are *normal* for any Windows PC (mine has several and it runs just fine). Don't let them take control of your PC because they can download *real* malware, possibly a malware suite, that can spam, steal bank logins and personal info, etc. If they've remoted into your PC, the safest fix is to re-format your drive and re-install your OS assuming you have clean backups of your data. You can try scanning with various antivirus software but scanning may not find all the malware. If you don't know how, get help from friends or pay a local shop to do it. THIS IS A SCAM.

I received a call from this number several days ago.  My caller ID said the number was 1123-456-7809.  Based on this and the heavy Indian accent of the caller, I figured he was calling from overseas.  When he explained he works for a company that services computer owners and that my PC had downloaded a virus, I said "No thanks" and hung up.  I don't know how he got my telephone number but one thing is certain, he was trying to scare me into buying a product or service I didn't need (I have Norton 360 on my PC) or worse, trying to trick me into letting him take control of my PC by following his instructions.  Thank goodness I trusted my instincts and hung up!!!

    1) The phone number alone is the clue .... its a ' spoofed ' phone number
    2) No one including any branch of  government intel can tell you whether you've got a lap top , pc or Mac ( of any kind ) Thats an ' insiders ' tip btw ;-)
    3) Never ever give out  any valid personal  information of any kind  out to ANYONE soliciting it by phone , email or otherwise . No one legitimate requests info via solicitation of any kind
    4) Your only recourse with these spoofed phone # scam artists is to NOT answer the phone . Anytime you do , regardless of your response ..you  come up as an ' active ' phone number and they'll keep calling hoping to get someone on the line that'll fall for their bs .Not answering after awhile ( sometimes a long while ) will eventually get you removed from their list as an inactive phone #

Didn't recognize the number and it is obviously a spoofed number - there is no area code 123 anyway. I pick up the phone then disconnect.  The silly thing about computer being infected? Ha!  I have a Mac and would know if anything was wrong.  Maybe the thing to do would be to keep them talking...string them along...then say "Thank you for staying on the line and talking to me...we have now pinpointed your location...our drone will launch the missile in 5 seconds..bye forever!"
