They call and say they are a recovery corporation, then ask for all of your personal details, name date of birth to verify who you are due to privacy laws.  When I refused they claimed to have sent me a letter to my address 52 days ago which I have never seen.  After telling them I did not receive the letter they then requested me to verify my address.  Again I refused and asked them to tell me the address it was sent to and they would not.  They did not state where their so called recovery corporation was based and the caller would not give his name.  I hung up!!  They have called back and left a message to call back leaving the # 130 055 7820 and a client reference #.  I will not be returning the call, as I am way to "careful"

I too have had a number of calls from these people claiming to be a debt collection agency although they will not give me the name of their company.  They too have not posted anything and I did return their call and it does not give a company name just says "you are number 1 in queue" before someone answers and asks for all your personal details to "verify".  Said they were a debt company in Melbourne and they couldn't help me if I didn't give them personal details - I hung up!

    Can't be too careful
Yep Just had a call from this number with exactly the same claim as the two posts above, they sent an SMS with their number and client reference - nothing in the post either.Actually the woman became quite rude when I refused to give my personal details and told her I wasn't giving her any of my details until she told me what it was about ... she kept refusing claiming 'privacy laws'.

Today I received a call from a private number. The guy asked me to identify myself and I asked who he was he said he's Anthony and I said but it's not enough for me to give him my personal details. He asked for full details, date of birth, address and ....  before he could put me through his Business Manager. I said 1st you tell me who you are and where from. He said all I could tell you is that I'm from Recovery Cooperations.  He said you should have received our Letter; I said what letter, I never received anything and he said unless you give me all your details I can not give you more info.  I refused unless he tells me at least who their client was he said if he gives me any information he'd loose his job.  I said well I can not give any personal details. I asked for his number and he gave me 1300557820.  When I called that number a woman answered the phone and she too asked for my full details which again I refused to say. She said give me the reference number and I said no that guy/ Anthony never mentioned anything else. Then she spoke with me in a very rude way and said well if you don't give me your full details I can't help you.
I don't know what to do and very upset about this call.

    Repeated Calls
I have recieved alot of calls .....txt voice messages and private number with the same people saying they are debt recovery.....they wont give me any info untill i give them my personal detaials.  The 1st call i did give them details mand they said i have a debt with Centre Link from a loan. I do not even have the benifit since the begining of 2012.  The saying they have been sent this to collect for center link.  I said I don't owe them nor do i have an account with centre link and I have contacted centre link and they dont say anything about a debt.  Since the 1st call i have have 5-6 calls then txt and they are calling from a mobile that you can not call back due to it being disconnected.  Today i have recieved 2 calls.  Every time they call it is some1 different.  I have about 5 names so far.  Be careful with this

I just got a call from these guys too, and had the same conversation. I eventually gave in and provided the details they wanted (curiosity i guess) and it turns out they were legit. The dealings i had with them werent as bad as above because i knew what they were talking about. I asked the person why they couldnt just tell me what it was before asking my details and they said it was to protect me from calling up someone randomly and saying "hey this is about James' debt with blah blah blah". Still it was pretty frustrating nonetheless. Then again, most laws are!

Yes its all legit your just being silly and talking of fear and scams. You owe debts and if you dont talk to them and play ball theyre much more powerful than you the individual. You owe money and now your default listed, wages garnised and they have contacted your employer for your wages.

This is a debt recovery agency used by the federal government to recover debt.  See these links: http://www.recoveriescorp.com.au/    and    http://www.health.qld.gov.au/qhpp/docs/DHS-factsheet.pdf  .  I'd suggest ringing the Department of Human Services Debt Recovery Team on 136-330  or if you haven't done your tax get your tax agent to sort it out.

I received what I thought was a very dodgy call from this number yesterday, so I found myself here reading about it and very glad I didn't give them my info.
Then I received the letter today that they said they had sent. From a company called Recoveriescorp. Turns out it is a legitimate recovery agency that groups like Dept for Human Services and Centrelink use to recover unpaid debts. Only realised this when the amount they were asking for was exactly the same amount as an overpayment of Family Tax Benefit that I had received notice of last week from Dept for Human Services.
So don't freak out, people. It's good to be wary and I don't like how they go about their phone contact at all, however chances are you actually have a legitimate debt to pay and maybe haven't received the correct notification from the relevant agency. My medicare letters are sent to an app I have on my phone, and it doesn't appear to work very well, so I only just found out about the debt. Now paid in full, so hopefully no more seemingly dodgy phone calls!

I got a call from this number as well. When the government overpays on family allowance they then get this mob to do the dirty work. They are quite rude threatening to empty my bank account by force if I didn't make a payment on the spot. Would prefer not to get payments in the first place if they just take it back anyway

The same story happened to me recently. At last I received the letter from recovery corp.It was from the Centrelink. I am very upset that the Centrelink just sent me on line letter separately for my overpaid money from the centrelink. I have paid back the money two months ago. I thought I paid off all of them. But Still one letter I havn't read. The Centrelink should remind me first,I definitely think some problems with the communication from the Centrelink. They should remind the customer with paper letter or phone call not just the onlone letter before thay sent the debt to recovery corp.

These guys are a debt collection company, but not a very good one. They're also used for motor vehicle accidents and collecting money from that. Be aware though, they will spin some might [***] on missing forms etc. Make sure you receive EVERYTHING and don't stand for when they say it's "lost". Bunch of scare tactic [***]

Agree! Centerlink should send letter to me first before refer to debt collect company who's calling first thing to verify my personal details.

Just had one of these myself.  I didn't want to give out personal info to some random sounding Indian in a call center so I called Centrelink (Human Services who he said he was calling on behalf of) and verified that I did have a debt and that it was in fact passed onto Recoveries Corp.  Then I called the contact number from their website rather than the one I got in the SMS, just in case.

They passed me through to the correct department, verified my identity and verified the correct debt amount from Centrelink.  They wanted a credit card number over the phone which I wasn't keen on, but they provided B-Pay details when I asked.  I was surprised that they had not added an administration fee on top of the original amount.  I guess Recoveries Corp takes a percentage rather than adding fees.

The debt was an advance payment that wasn't fully paid back by the time I went off payment.  The silly thing is that if Centrelink had sent me a letter or an email I would have paid it long ago.  That digital letter system they have is annoying.  I stopped checking it when all the letters they were notifying me about where about my partner.

really, we're being silly when a private, unsolicited number calls and asks us to verify OUR identity. The way they've done it is not reasonable and how are we to know we're not being scammed when we have NO proof of their identity.

    Really annoyed
I've had several phone calls and 2 text messages asking me to verify my personal details. I've never received centerlink payments and family payments finished about 8 or 9 years ago.  I know I don't owe anyone anything. I now get 2 phone calls every day from "caller unknown " which I no longer answer
