I dialed them back today (8/24) & found it was answered by a female voice saying " you have reached P lymouth Rock Energy" - if you know your agent's extension, dial it now or press zero for the operator.  I called at 5:45 pm EST

Here is an update so you can decide if you should answer when they call a second time.

"Hello, we are calling about a very important matter regarding your electric bill.
As a result of the new state laws, you may be entitled to a reduction of up to
25% on your next electric bill. This is a no cost free service to you."

Up to 25% is not at least 25% so know what you are getting into.

I never answer 888 or 800 numbers but I picked up this one because it looked like a real phone number.  It was Plymouth Rock Energy.  I could hardly hear/understand the telemarketer because (1) there was all this background noise and feedback in the background, and (2) he was speaking kind of fast and garbled.  

This guy asked for "the person in charge of the PSEG bill" and launched into a script about how I'm entitled to have my energy bill lowered.  He then asked if I was in good standing on my bill (I answered YES) and whether I was on any kind of government assistance (I answered NO).  He then asked me for a number (again, I could hardly hear/understand him so I'm not sure which number he was asking for) on my PSEG bill.  I asked him to send me something in writing because I don't do business or give out any information over the phone.  He then adopted a combative tone and said they already sent me something in the mail.  So I told him I'd review the matter and get back to them.  He grew even MORE combative and said something like, "What's the point of going through the mail when we already have all your information here and we can do it over the phone?"

Uh huh.  You have all my information and that's why you don't even have my name.  Idiots.  Plymouth Rock Energy seems legitimate, and I don't think this was a scam, per se.  However, I don't appreciate unsolicited calls, especially being on the Do Not Call list, and I certainly don't appreciate companies trying to trick or pressure me into switching providers  Even if Plymouth Rock does have better rates than PSEG, I won't be switching to Plymouth Rock because they've pissed me off.  Good job, Plymouth Rock.

fast talker called and asked me about my pse&g bill with questions that pse&g should already know.  when i hung up on him, he had the audacity to call me back!!!  He misrepresented himself as pse&g until I called him out on it.  He indicated that i am entitled to a discount that must be "asked for".  He said the info can be found on page 3 of my bill.  Sime sales tactic.  Beware!!

wow you people are stupid.. its funny cause i use to work there and had to put up with that [***] day in and day out. You really don't do business over the phone?? Have you ever ordered pizza over the phone?? You will do more business that way than actually listing to one of these people.. There not out to get you..They are simply helping you lower your bill "FOR FREE", and you're not leaving your utility company. Thats all there doing, and you want to bash them on the internet, or cuss them out on the phone?? What the [***] is wrong with you people? When I worked there I called NJ... I now understand the phrase "Go back to Jersey you moron!" Listen there people just like you trying to make a living. So listen to what they have to say..

1.  You shouldn't call people stupid or morons when you don't know how to capitalize, punctuate, spell, use the proper contractions, use the correct tense or differentiate between "they're", "there" and "their".  I'm not surprised, though, that Plymouth Rock hires uneducated idiots like you with sub par intelligence.

2.  When people are on the Do Not Call registry and Plymouth Rock Energy calls them anyway...REPEATEDLY...it's called HARASSMENT.  When Plymouth Rock representatives are rude and insulting over the phone it's called HARASSMENT.  Get a list of people that are NOT on the Do Not Call list and call THEM.

3.  Yeah, buddy.  People have to make a living.  We all have to make a freakin' living.  It's hard to make a living.  It's hard to hold on to money.  That is exactly why people are wary of telemarketers.  Do you know how many scammers are out there?   Why should people trust any stranger calling them out of the blue to ask for account information?  The fact that Plymouth Rock telemarketers MISREPRESENT themselves as PSEG representatives says it all.

If you send people 3 junk mail and we ignore it, get a clue and stop calling.
People should send a "Cease and Desist" letter then sue on further calls.

I guess I'm a lucky one, because when I answered the phone with a "hello", after a few seconds, a female voice responded "goodbye"

The telemarketer from Plymouth Energy started the call by asking to "speak with the person who pays the PSE&G bill".  When he introduced himself as being from PRE, I immediately hung up.  Why should I stop doing was I am doing to listen to his sales pitch? I have better things to do.

Chris, I am not rude to telemarketers.  I've been on the other end of those calls, but my statement that I do not do business over the phone is true in terms of doing business with unsolicited callers.  If a pizza place called me and asked me if I wanted a pizza, I would have the same response.  When I want a pizza, I call them.  If I am interested in a plan to change my utility company, I will call them.

I got the same call but honestly when I asked the person for thier phone number because I never heard of them the woman gladly gave it to me and gave me the website to check them out. Usually when I do this is when I get there is a problem with the phone or they just hang up.   Got me interested because saving money is pretty important right now I decided to check it out.  So after about an hour of research and calling PSE&G I checked it out and it was legitimate.   If the rates stay I will save myself about $30-$40 a month.  So I called back my fried Kathy Smith who took my call and signed up.

They're not trying to save you money "For free".  Companies don't hire telemarketers to make calls out of the kindness of their hearts: they do it to make money.  They're trying to get you to sign up for a variable cost energy plan. There's a million companies out there doing the same thing.  Right now, you can save a few bucks by using them...however you need to watch the cost per kwh VERY closely because it can vary greatly.  A good question to start with is "how long am I locked into this rate?" and "is there a fee to switch back?" (usually its a couple months, and no fee).

Much like a variable mortgage, you definitely CAN save money this way, however it doesn't take much for the costs to go up and actually end up with a bill higher than with PSE&G...ESPECIALLY with the economy the way it is at present.

An educated consumer can make these plans work (I've switched between providers a few times to do so, taking advantage of the introductory rate for as long as I can)....know what it is you're buying.

You should check your processes as I received 2 calls in the last 2 workdays and my phone is registered on the DNCL.

A better suggestion would be instructions on how to get off of your calling list.

i completely agree with you its actually benefiting them and are getting a lower rate ive seen it on my bill and they were right as well they are a large supplier and did choose plymouth rock energy which is backed of by the BBB i checked it out and they are a good company!

I received a call from 973-678-4646 stating they are from Plymouth Rock Energy and wanted me to save on my electric bill and not my Gas bill like I have been reading in this forum.. My questions to them had no valid answers. Not even their business address. Also the agent was very rude when I told him I was not interested. Also my number is in the Do not call list.
