- Angela| 1 replyThis is a scam, they say they are department of justice and they have a warrant for u. Do not give them any information. They tried to get 1600.00 from me.
- Alfalfa replies to AngelaThis is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information from unscrupulous websites like the one you may have filled out an application with, and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.
ABC News released an investigative report on this scam in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:

They told me I have a warrant of arrest but I could still remove the warrant if I pay $675 using money pack that I could buy at Walmart.... I called the number that they gave me and it's supposed to be the department of justice but I was shocked because I didn't have hard time calling the DOJ., the receptionist answered right away...so I know it's a scam...

- AdelThis is a scam. They called my 67 year old mom who threatened to garnish her whole social security check for $633.33 or they would have the police to pick her up. My mom never took out loan, doesn't have a checking or savings account and couldn't have possibly taken out a payday loan. They didn't try to make payment arrangements - They wanted to know how much money she had available to give them. If she didn't have anything, they were demanding the $633.33 or threatened to arrest her.
- RonaldI got the same call. Somehow they used the number of a local police department which showed on the caller ID. They said they were from the Department of Justice. Who shall I report them to?
- gwen royster| 1 replyAn Indian man identified themselves as being with the State Police and that a warrant was out for my arrest but wouldn't tell me for what. gave me a claim number and told me to call with was supposed to be with the Department of Justice. Called the number I was given and another Indian man answered the phone Department of Justice. I gave him the number I was issused and he put me on hold to transfer my call. At this time I hung up.
Didn't realize anyone could get through the Department of Justice so quickly.- Caller: said they were with the State Police
- Payback replies to gwen roysterHe need to get his [***] arrested by the State Police. If he's in India, he should get arrested by his own State's Police but too bad they have different laws, and all the other political crap. Either way that guy and his group is asking for trouble.
- dee| 1 replyAn individual just called my phone telling me to return a call to this number or an arrest warrant would be made. But what was even more weird was at the end of the call he says have a good life/ or laff. What a jerk. I heard of people doing this before but never thought it would happen to me.
