- cat| 1 replyThey say they are a "windows technical department" and a "channel company of windows" and my computer is sending error messages and is in dire condition and they need to help me repair it. They are very persistent. This is the second time this week. The first time when I questioned them, they hung up. This time, they gave me their number. When I call back I can barely understand them but they insist they are there to help fix the computer. I would not give them any info and asked them to stop calling.
- Caller: One...soft Solutions for Windows (can't understand them)
- scam hunterSame as Cat. This is almost certainly a scam. A friend of mine was caught this way in the UK they remotely connected to her computer to Phish for her personal data. They also asked for a credit card number and charge you for "fixing your computer" Do not entertain this call!! You have been warned
- L J FinnSimilar to Cat, very persistent that I turn on my computer, they will show me what is wrong. I got this number from them but would not do as asked. This is twice in the past month.
- Caller: unknown
- dominic| 1 replyThinking they were legit i gave them acccess to my computer for a short while. What should i do?

- DawnJust received same call - I didn't trust this and told him so - eventually gave me the above # to call to confirm and I found these posts by searching the phone # online - as well he kept telling me they are legit from "New Jersey" - sure didn't sound like it! And he kept trying to prove to me he's from windows - stay away from this! he said his name was Robin White. - based on his accent that was a totally made up name. Sounded like he was from India or Pakistan.

- GreenerI’ve been receiving calls from a company that identifies themselves as Microsoft Technical Dept. Informing me that they’ve been receiving complaints that our computer is sending out a virus. They ask me to go to my computer and key in a long number and they will fix the problem. The first time I told them that I’m not at my computer and called my son (tech adviser) but they keep calling. The last call I asked them to give me their contact info and I will call back to confirm that they are with Microsoft.
I was given the below information.
Technical Dept/Microsoft in Seattle WA
201 338-6142 and ask for James Guppling. I Googled the number and found your post.- Caller: Technical Dept
- Call type: Telemarketer
- LizI got the same persistent call from a "Microsoft Tech" insisting he could fix my computer for $409.00, wanting my credit card number. I told him I'd call back the next day but checked it out and he's a fraud. The number he left me was (201) 338-6142. Don't fall for his fast talk and persistent ways - he's a fraudster.
Liz - DoI received a call from an indian he asked me to log to my computer so he can fix my widow defection i do not know from where they are getting my info even though my window is not register under my name
- MCI've received several calls from these people, and this is the first time they gave me call back info.
He was obviously East Indian, but he said to call this number in New Jersey and ask for John. He hung up fast after that. He wanted access to my computer, and claimed to be a windows tech.- Caller: Microsoft windows tech
- randy o'bryanif you recieve a call from 2013386142 dont entertain.they are scam

- suspicious replies to catJust got a call from the 201-338-6142 windows servicing center...immediately suspicious, surprised he gave me number to call. He got quite an attitude when I asked if he was going to try to sell me something. Thankful for this site! Helped me to quickly see this was a scam and hang up on him. I agree, quite persistent that I turn on my computer right away. Glad I didn't. Wow, just had call from 203-051-3739 which I did not pick up. Turns out that number is in this directory too. Handy that! Thanks.
- John (not that John though)Just received a call from an unknown name/number. When pushed he gave the same number and ask for John. I called the phone company and asked for a trace of the last call - they were unable to assist though.
- SuzieThis morning I received a call from this number. He said he was Alex from Windows IT and that my computer has been hacked. I told him I do not have a problem with my computer but he insisted. I am computer savy so would not fall for his line but I told him I could not understand him and could not deal with his call right now. I asked for his number and name so that I could call him back. Of course, I have no intention of ever phoning him back! I also asked where he was calling from and he said New Jersey. I suspect he is really from India or Pakistan from the accent.
I reported the call to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. The lady I talked to said some people are receiving as many as 30 call per day from this kind of fraudsters. She said it is the number 1 complaint right now.
I am not concerned for myself (except for the inconvenience of answering the phone) but I do have concerns for older people who have little computer experience.- Caller: Fraud pretending to be Windows IT

- ClassicKnightThey're still at it! I received a call this evening....unknown name, unknown number on the caller ID. The fellow claimed to be from Windows (no such company, of course) and that they had received a report my PC was heavily infected with "extremely malicious" viruses.
This smelled heavily of SCAM, so I stopped him there and asked what company he was with.
"Microsoft." he responded.
"And what is your telephone number?" I asked.
"Why would you want that?" he replied
"So I can verify that you are who you say you are." I answered
To his credit, he didn't hang up on me but gave me the following number:
(this, by the way, is the format in which he gave it) 20-133-86-142
A reverse directory search shows the number as non-existent (but probably in New Jersey). A different search led me to this site. As everyone above says: BEWARE! BEWARE! - trashhaulerGot a call from (201) 338-6142 very similar to others reported above...i.e. claimed to be from Windows and would help me fix problem with my computer. Of course I did not fall for it.
I have a question though: since it is so evident that this number is used to carry out fraudulent activity, why the h...can't the FCC and/or the FBI take immediate action? Surely the phone company providing service at that number can provide investigators with names and/or addresses of the fraudsters. - ron nelsonthey are good persons..

- JankiThey say that they are from windows company, they want access to my computer! First time I did give them the access to my computer because I thought they were real & my dad wasn't in the country either so I got scared by hearing that my computer is hacked. When I gave them the access they started going through my pictures & stuff! When I saw them doing that I immediately shut down my computer & told them not to call me. However I am still constantly getting calls from these people & they are telling me that if I don't buy their security protection then they will cancel the license of my computer! They called me 10 - 15 times, I told them not to call me & threatened about the police too. However, they aren't stopping to call me so if anyone has the answer how to stop them then please help me !
- Caller: Windows Company
- MissilxFirst an Indian-accented woman called to verify that i 'have windows computers', then I was transferred to a "microsoft certified technician' who gained access to my machine via the AMMYY remote desktop sharing program, and proceeded to lead me both thru my internal performance logs and external web sites to "prove I had been affected by a koobface virus attack that had left a backdoor to my system open" to hackers. Somehow he pegged my CPU to 100%, though this was the only program running.
Next he offered to fix this and all problems for free, but he required a "security panel" to be installed, and led me to 'onestoppcsolutions.com'. Then he required that I purchase one of the plans offered by that site that start at $228. He pushed very hard, giving me his employer ID code of MS22259HQ, a name of 'Mike Smith' and a callback number of 201-338-6142. He sounded Indian with a New Zealand accent, if that's possible!
The call lasted over an hour; it took maybe thirty minutes before he even got to the security panel/sales pitch! Avast Internet Security has not picked up on any actual intrusion into my machine, but it's about to get a full in-depth scan.- Caller: "Microsoft Windows Support"
