- Barry Perl| 1 replyI got a call from "Austin" who said he was from the Windows help desk and they were getting "dangerous alarms" from my computer that it had "germs" and my programs were corrupted. I thought it was unusual for Microsoft to be calling, but I had recently registered software with Mircosoft and given my phone number. "Austin" offered to prove his authenticity by telling me my computer's secret security ID # that only I and Microsoft have. He then instructed me to open the DOS command prompt and type in "assoc". This displays file associations. He then told me my secret number was 31 digit number that is the same on every computer I own. It's no secret. All windows computer have the same number. I asked for his phone number and he gave 201-844-6490. I think this is a marketing ploy or worse.

- Bob| 1 replyGot a call from this number too. Same story as the guy above. I didn't follow directions. He took control of my computer remotely. When I said I'm calling the police he disconnected the call and turned my computer off. Filed a report with police for fraud.
- Phil| 1 replySame as above. I allowed them to work on it after agreeing to a 3-yr warranty before they would fix the problems. They ran some test which showed my PC was operating @ 76%. I'm after them to show some result that it's running better than that. I just had CyberDefenders clean it 10 days earlier, install spyware/virus protection because I had emails being sent to my contact list w/out my knowledge. They said CyberDefenders installed the software but failed to fix the initial problem. CyberDefenders had the same routine (show you the problem/fix it upon condition that you buy a warranty).
Is there a Consumer Protection group that can tell me what's really going on w/my PC? I'm @ the mercy of these vendors.- Caller: Tech E Support.com?
- fill replies to PhilYou may be unqualified to own or operate a computer.
- redThis is a bad call. Claim to be micro soft. If you phone it back it says it is disconnected.
- tigerluvI just received a call from this number. This person had a very strong language dialect (probably an Indian dialect) and told me that they were calling from Microsoft to tell me that they had detected infections on my computer when I go online. They asked me to open my "event viewer" and let them know approximately how many "errors" and "warnings" I saw listed. I told them and then they got me to another person who they said could help me with these advanced technical problems. So, he gets on the line and starts telling me several things and bottom line was he wanted access to my computer so he could "fix" (remove) the infections and "activate master protection" so that these "infections" wouldn't happen again. He told me if I do not do this, my system will eventually come "crashing down." He blamed the infections on hackers who for the past 4-5 months have been able to get past firewalls and virus protection programs. All of this sounded more than slightly suspicious to me so I asked if I could call him back. He gave me the number 201-844-6490 and told me his name was "Justin Sykes." He wanted to know when I would call him back and I said today and he told me he worked until 7:00 pm my time. Weird. My caller ID brought up the number 456-0661 from Seattle, Washington, yet he said he was actually calling from New Jersey. I could hear several voices in the background (sounded like a call center).
I called my local "computer guy" that I use all the time. He immediately told me it was a SCAM! He has had dealings many times with it before with customers.
I called the number back, and it rang and rang and rang (at least 30 times) with no answer. Hmmmm, guess Mr. "Justin Sykes" knew that he was most likely going to be exposed by my computer guy and gave me the usual bogus number.
This is a horrible thing to go thru...it should be illegal, and I wish it could be reported to authorities so that they could be shut down. I have an above-average computer intellect but not all folks do....once they get access to ones computer, who knows the damage that they are capable of performing.
Ugh!- Caller: "Microsoft"

- Edith Redar replies to BobI also received a call from someone named Phillip with the Windows Service Center. They had been receiving reports that I was having issues with my computer. The difference is that they charged me $399.99 for a lifetime online system so my computer woulr would never run slow, blue screen etc. thte phone # I was given was 201-844-6490. The reciept for my payment was for a Pioneer Law Firm,LLC. Beware of any phone calls from Windows or Microsoft.
- MauriceI also got a call "from" this number. I am living in the Netherlands. It was like at others a guy named Kenneth with an Indian accent. I asked him his phonenumber so I could call him back. Before calling him back I checked the number on the Internet and found out it was a Scam.
Microsoft will never call you !!! Be aware.- Caller: "Mircosoft"
- MariannaI just got off the phone with the guy. He told me he was getting malicious emails from me and he was from Microsoft Phone Center and he was going to help me fix it. As he was handing me his line of crap, I looked on line for the phone number he gave me 201-844-6490 and found this blog. What nerve.

- Alison CowieI have had several calls from so-called Microsoft security, today it was "Edward Wilson" who had an almost impenetrable Indian accent who called so I asked for a phone number so that I could call back later and was given this number. I realized with the first call (probably over a year ago) that it was a scam and now enjoy messing with them. Finally I started telling them that I did not have a computer in the house which brought about an abrupt end to the call. But how to stop them?
- Caller: microsoft security
- WendiI received a phone call yesterday from a guy named Oliver and he had a very strong Indian accent. He claimed to be with Microsoft and that he had received many security alerts from my computer and he wanted me to go to my computer and give him some information so that he could help me fix he problem. He said that someone has been hacking it and it is possibly infected with several viruses. It sounded weird to me so I asked for his number so my husband could call him back. And he gave me 201-844-6490. But my caller ID said private caller.
- Caller: Said they were with Microsoft
- lein| 1 replyJust got the second call from a guy named Kenneth, said he was calling from Manchester UK (201 844 6490), but had a indian accent. An hour before I got a call from an Alex Watson, and he gave away that he was in a totally different timezone than the UK, more like India. My computer was supposed to be corrupted for more than 90% and he would have the solution. First he asked me to enter the "assoc" command in the command prompt, and when I asked him why he started a strange story. Not to be trusted!!!

- ter braackVandaag werd ik gebeld, evenals gisteren, evenals meerdere keren ervoor. Steeds een ander. Soms een man, soms een vrouw.Altijd Engels sprekend. Altijd de vraag naar de computer. Er zou iets mis mee zijn.
Soms dwingend: is de computer aan? Nee, ik doe hem nu uit. No,no, no.Go to your computer etc. etc. - CJ replies to leinthey now have girls working the lines. I have received 4 calls in last few weeks. wish there was something that could be done to these con artists. tell them you are filing a police report and they quickly hang up. funny how that works.
- mach 1513WOW! These guys have brass. Have gotten four calls in last three days - Eddie Wilson, Andrea, Kris, one I can't remember. All Indo-Pak-Bangledeshi accents. Managed to trace one call back to central India as well as New Jersey and Washington.
Same B.S. I was very skeptical from beginning. When first caller wasn't getting anywhere, he threatened to shut off my computer because it was a danger to all other XP users and would crash anyway before the end of the day. Didn't happen, of course.- Caller: PDD/microsoft security?
- carol vadnieI received several calls from"microsoft" recently saying my computer had sent messages concerning infected files and running at 25% speed. After the 5th call I beleived him. He had an indian accent, hard to understand and left the famous 201 number. He managed to get $249. from me and was going for more when mastercard called about the unusual activity on the card. I plan to go as far as I can to recover the loss and to let others know. Microsoft said they don't call anyone, they let people call them Even tho I have an ID number, the phone number, operater's number and name, it doesn't mean much. My computer was left in frozen position and I had to get help to restore it. Beware of phone calls of any kind.

He told me that he could transfer me to a Microsoft technican but it would cost $79 for a 1 yr agmt, $149.00 for a 3 yr agmt and the premium agmt for all household computers would run $399. Since I had cash flow issues I could only afford $79 agmt. For some reason my credit card rejected. Andrew changed my password and said he would give me the password only if I promised to pay $149.00 by 2/2/13. If not he would crash my computer. I cancelled the credit card but I need to know who to report the scam to!!

Hmmmm, guess Mr. "Justin Sykes" knew that he was most likely going to be exposed by my computer guy and gave me the usual bogus number. - dania| 2 repliesI had a call from a so called Microsoft windows person who told me my computer was infected with viruses and that it would close down inside 3 / 4 days and that it was running very slowly. He kept me on the line for well over 20 / 25 mins in which time he had gained access to my computer ( very very convincing) - I then became suspicious when my mouse started moving about the screen and I started x ing out of other boxes which they kept asking me to view and asking me to count the problems I had. This was irritating them and I could hear it in the voices - I let it go for too long and would advise anyone with a similar call just to drop the phone and don't get involved, I got a tel no from him asking him to allow me to ring him back - Guess what I could not get through and after contacting my tech support friend they told me this was a scam. This was a really bad experience and would want to alert anyone else out there who might fall foul of this trap.
