Called around 1138 PDT this morning, ICLID showed this number as "unknown" so I let it go to the answering machine. Recorded for about three minutes playing instrumental music and "thank you for holding" messages every thirty seconds or so.

Well, spoofed or not, 202 is the NPA for Washington, DC and we are in an election year, so maybe that's a clue. Get out and vote this November, people, then maybe this crap'll stop!

Some telemarketers will do that. if all their circuits are busy, they'll actually put YOU `on hold' until one of THEM has a free line. sounds like you had got one of these calls.

-  new  twist  is  they  are   also  impersonating  DEA  officials   with  threats  to  arrest you  unless  you  immediately  send money  via  wire   transfer /  western  union   to some   offshore  country  !!!!!   obvious  scam  !!!

some  are landlines...many  are  cell phones...some  are  spoofed  and  linked  to  offshore foreign countries !!!!
we've  traced  back  most  of  these  numbers  to  offshore  foreign    call centers  in  INDIA /  THAILAND / AFRICA  /  JAMAICA  ETC....

here's a  few  other  numbers  posted  from  the   same  area  code  offering a  wide  variety  of  scams  /  fake  emails and  scams  after  posting  something  on   craigslist   (  old  scam  )  ...... collecting  for  non  existant  "  payday  loans "....free  money / scam  giveaways /  calling  on  behalf  of  a  humane  society..... $1,000's  in  free  gov't  money.........  etc  etc.....stories  change  out  all the  time......and  the  usual  nonsense!!!

**   mysteriously  call to  claim  they  have  several  thousand  of  dollars  to  send  you....just  provide  you  bank  account and  credit  card   right  away   etc etc.........scam scam

several  of  these are  the  usual   long  ongoing  scams   such  as  :  you  have  won a  free  walmart /  bestbuy  gift  card....or  you  have  won a  free  ipad  etc......all  long  ongoing  scams

I don't know if it's a fraud scammer or not. As I said, all they did was play Muzak into my answering machine. Probably either what "DrGood" said, or some luz3r kid somewhere with a VOIP terminal and lots of time to waste.

Let the call go to voice mail. When I checked VM, the caller spoke in a foreign language & I didn't understand a word. They called back 10 minutes later with a blocked ID & didn't say anything, but you could hear people talking in thebackround.

Have received several phone calls from this number but refuse to answer it. No voice mail left.

they have called me the past 3 days under unknown number and of course I don't answer. It went to v/m once but it was just silence for a couple min's before I deleted it. I just got a call from this number, it rang once and hung up than almost immediately the unknown number rang again, of course I didn't answer and it went to v/m.  I could hear people talking but couldn't make it out but it was English but sounded like a call center. I think I heard a lady saying to someone she was talking fast and loud but I think I made out police. I'm sure they're threatening people with some scam. I never ever answer numbers I don't know and if they don't leave a message then I did;t want the call,

I don't take kindly to people asking for me by my first name but they won't identify themselves. Whoever this was they called twice today. Next time I won't answer.

Have gotten calls from unknown number for the past three days. Answered this morning at 9:00 and asked who they were they said they were part of the government grants department I said remove me from your call list and the guy went on to tell me "I will call you [***]." When I repeated myself he again verbally attacked me. Want to look into legal council about this. Especially if they call again.

The woman tried to tell me that I was randomly selected to to receive a 9k grant from the US Government.  She tried to get me to answer a lot of questions that I told her I was not comfortable answering.  This went on for about 5 minutes.  I told her her if manager would like to speak with me to get this information then I would speak with them.  She replied with F@ck You B!tch and hung up.  I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this was a scam.

Somehow these people got my cell phone number.  They call me 3-4 times a day - well now it is blocked.  They don't leave messages and if you call them back it is not a valid phone number.  They drove me nuts, but cant any more.  I do wonder who they are though and how they got my cell number.

Someone at this number call ever day saying I was picked to receive 9000 dollars from the federal government that I don't have to repay and I was picked due to paying bills on time and haven't filled bankruptcy

Answered this call, man with an accent said he was from the US treasury. I said "great, are you going to send me some money?" He hung up! Lol

I am being called several times daily in spite of asking them to stop and in spite of having registered on the do not call list.  Soon I will contact the FTC

Legal assistance is worthless.  The parties calling you are hard core Indian and Pakistani scammer/extortionists.  They are beyond the reach of US law.  Invest in a call blocker and DO NOT pick up on call numbers you do not recognize.  You might want to block 202 area code; it is often used by these kinds of scammers.

Hard core Indian and Pakistani scammer/extortionists.  They buy and sell names or "leads" as they call them.  Usually they can pay up to $5/per name.   Strong market for information these days.
