Got a recorded message from this number ... a "wireless caller"... stating I was about to be sued by the IRS ... "call back right away!"... or something like that. Does the IRS make phone calls from a cellphone?

I just got a mechanical recorded voice saying "IRS the reason for this call is to inform you that the IRS is filing a lawsuit against you. Must be another scam. I traced it to a cell phonne in Washington DC. recieved the call 30 minutes ago approx.

This is the IRS and you are being sued please contact us back immediately to discuss what is going on.

How ridiculous. I just had this voice mail too. IRS only contacts by mail, but thanks for the Monday morning scare, you jerks!

Got the same message around noon. Thank God this isn't only me. I'm reporting it to the irs now.

I just got the call and actually talked to someone on the line who had pretty darn good private information and I knew they were F.O.S. when he demanded payment with iTunes gift cards! As if the utter rudeness and thick foreign accent wasn't enough to give it away! SCAM!!!

Total scam.  Originates in either India or Pakistan.   Block and ignore.   DO NOT RETURN THE CALL!

IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.  IRS has enough administrative authority under the IRS Code and related regulations to collect all taxes lawfully due the federal government.     Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest as related to ordinary tax disputes.  Having a deficiency in taxes owed by way of audit is NOT a crime.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

I called this number back several times in a row, not speaking when it was answered, but I thought it quite notable that everytime it was answered by a different person, they all seemed to have Indian or Pak accents...Hmm... I guess IRS is hiring a lot of overseas "helpers" these days.....ha ha ha!

We have received several calls today on our home landline.  The caller(s) have a very thick accent.  They stated that the I.R.S. is filing a lawsuit against us.  They are referencing my former address (which was changed by Post Office several years ago).  They have used my nickname and my son's name.  They have even gone so far as to tell my husband that they will be sending Police Officer to our home.  I will not be calling them back.  I work for a law firm and I know that the I.R.S. doesn't call anyone.  I am upset because I'm concerned that someone will fall for this scam.
