Phone scam pretends to be IRS.

I have been called several times now by these people and have threats made that I am going to be arrested. I have told them to bring it on as I had already spoken with the IRS and knew the call was a fraud. I thought that was the end of it but they keep calling and it is really starting to make me mad! How do I stop this????

Modern technology has given telescammers the tools to call you.
Since those telescammers are criminals, they ignore both the Do Not Call list and any request you might make.
Modern technology can also protect you, if YOU do a few simple things!
The most effective thing to do is to get a call blocker device, service or app.
Then, use it correctly.

Google "call blocker" for more information, or visit Amazon or similar sales site.

If you cannot afford or use such a tool, then:
* Do not answer calls from unknown numbers ... let them go to voicemail or answering service

* Do NOT return calls from unknown numbers!  All that does is verify your phone number!  And, in some cases, those return calls may cost $20 or more to complete.

* If you have a "dumb" cell phone, assign the scammer's number to a group named "scammers" (or similar).  Then, assign a silent ringtone to that group.

* Another option, for both smart and "dumb" cel phones:  Assign a "silent ringtone" as DEFAULT.  Then, assign your favorite ringtones to all known friends / family / business numbers.  That way, you will hear rings ONLY from those you wish to contact!  You will not hear scammers' rings, even if they change their number!

I have been contacted by this number stating they are from the IRS and that I am under investigation for tax fraud, tax evasion and one other thing but I can't remember what the other one was. They stated that the IRS would be at my house by 4:30 and that I was going to be arrested. I had already spoke with the IRS and they told me it was a scam and if anyone did show up at my house to call the police because it would not be anyone from the IRS. Needless to say no one showed up. I thought that was the end of it but now they are calling me again. What do I need to do to make it stop? I have told them I know they are not from the IRS and to not call my number again but still getting calls what do I need to do?

I just got a call from this number but since I didn't know the number, I didn't answer it.  I'm glad I didn't reading everyone's comments.  If it was someone who knew me or someone who as important they would either leave a message or text me.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). I was so scared when they call me today...Thank God for this website.

Call blocker is your best bet and do not pick up on calls you do not recognize.

they claimed that there was a case against me with IRS and when I told them I wanted IRS to send a letter in the mail this person  who sounded like somebody from India or some other country said to wait 45 minutes and the sherriff department is coming to arrest me. When I hanged up on him the first time he had the gall t call me back to let me know that they were coming to arrest me! I googled the number and it said IRS.

They call me just a few minutes ago and i was afraid too!! This site calm me.

they called here this morning and said something similar.  Looked up number and tried to call the IRS directly to verifiy.  The person was poor English and very hard to understand.  Police haven't shown up either poor scam on that side.  IRS usually sends you a letter to contact them not call first.

Say they was loan company,  wanted bank information

Said I have been approved for a loan ...of 3000 dollars ..but had to send them insurance money first western union..Didn't understand that ..so now I'm just checking them out

So the scammers have changed from impersonating the IRS to offering nonexistent grants.

These people have called me three times today!!  Each time i tell them to remove me from all lists.  Then they proceed to call me from another number.  They want to know if i need a loan.  If i wanted a loan i would go to a REAL BANK!!!  Why is it so hard to get these people to stop calling all day and not stop! they also call from 209.235.6886, 646.770.2913, and 206.939.6261

Company left message stating there were "serious allegations against me" and that I should return their call immediately. The voice sounded very much like a computer's voice reading a script.

I've  already had Y-max shut this number down.
