A guy claims to be from the I.R.S, it's a fake!

i have received the same call, makes me worry but if someone else receive the same call it makes me feel better.

Just got a message from this number 202-239-6259 stating that they are calling from John Marshall's IRS investigation office and that warrant is issued on my name and property.  I called back and got a phony voice message. After searching for this number on the net I found that this is a scam and I will report them to authorities

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

I just received a call from 202-239-6259 claiming to be from an IRS investigation office (first scammer alert red flag) and a warrant has been issued in my name (Second scammer alert red flag) not my legal name but my nickname (third scammer alert red flag) They wanted money to be wired to an individual immediately in order for the charges to be dropped (fourth scammer alert red flag). I googled the phone number and found this forum with the actual IRS warning against these scammers.
I am reporting this to the real IRS as well as our local news station that does a good job warning the public about these scams

He called claiming he is chief investigating officer, Warrant of arrest.... BS ( American Dictionary)

We got this call today. It's the second time they have tried it with us. I reported it both times.

I got a call from this number too.  The caller claimed he was John Marshall from the IRS.  He had a very heavy accent and was rude when I asked if it was a prank call.  He got upset and said "You think this is a prank, you will come to know."  He hung up as I was asking for his supervisor and the telephone number he was calling from.  I will report this as well.  I heard a call center in the background.

Just got a call from this number too - claiming the same things as above.

I got the same thing and when I started asking questions "Jim Marshal" hung up. I called a second time and got a answering service. I called again and got him . He then said that he forwarded my file to local authorities.

I got a phone call from the same number too. From the IRS federal investigation. Couldn't understand the guy properly. Scam artists

my husband got the same call from this number the guy name was Brian Allen he also asked personal information.

I received a call from this number on 2/19/14 and a man called Jim Marshall said he was from the IRS and gave his ID# as 1047 and said there was a Warrant out for me from the IRS.  When I said that I did not know anything about this and was not further responsive, he transferred me to a woman who said that the IRS had determined that they owed me money on an earlier return but they had also found a couple of errors.  They had therefore tried to deliver documents to me at home four months ago but there was no one there and they were not allowed to leave them there.  I asked why they did not try again and she had no answer to that.  Finally when she saw that she was not getting anywhere, she said that these documents would be sent to my local IRS office and I would be contacted by them to come in and see them.

I called the IRS and related the above to them - they said it was a scam; they would never send such documents or provide a warrant number. They said to never give SS # or other information when receiving such a call.

Since this has been going on for a few weeks, why has no action been taking to identify the owner of the phone number?

thanks, for the info. I also got a similar call few times in my home phone number where someone named James Marshall called from 818-239-6259 saying that he is from investigation dept.
