- MPYeahhh!!! Just got the call from 202-239-7017, I was waiting for it for long! Surprisingly she cut short in 2 minutes, by asking if I have criminal lawyer and, officers are on their way for my arrest :). I asked her at what address they are coming and, to my surprise, she had my correct address. I guess they identifies their victims in first 2 mints only!

- RexIRS replies to CaryThis is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm
As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.
2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)
3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://m.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-centr ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). - Cary| 1 replyCalled me many times again about tax fraud claims from 202.239.7017. I answered the phone. He started threatening me in his Mullah accent. I cussed at him and asked why Islam is so full of cheats, dishonest and violent people. He went ballistic.

- S.M.The perp is at it again. received the scam call on 9/24/14. Caller ID showed 202-239-7017 and "unknown name". Left a phone message identifying himself as agent Mike Watson from IRS criminal investigation. I received one of these calls some months ago. I was puzzled by it then, but now recognize the familiar Indian accent and MO.

- J Lim| 1 replyCaller Mike Watson, with Indian accent, left a message on my phone. He claimed to be from IRS threatening legal action against me for evading tax. Beware of the scam!

- DannyI received the call from 202-239-7017 on my voice mail informing me of a legal action against me and warning against ignoring the call. When I returned the call, an man with an accent would not give me details of the legal action but stressed the importance of settling the case promptly. I told him I'm not sure what he is talking about and asked him to send me details of the case by mail. He said he will not be able to do so because the terms of settlement expire today. I then said, in that case I'll see you in court and hang up. He called 15 minutes later but I did not answer the call. This and similar calls are a pain in the rear. I'm considering getting rid of the phone to avoid the calls. I can block the number but they'll use another.
