If you get a call from this number, it is a scam. Do not call it back. I received a call on May 20, 2014 that said: "This message is intended for you. You or your retained attorney must respond. This is Officer Hada Grey of the Internal Revenue Service. My number is 202-241-2158. I repeat, 202-241-2158. Return this call before we take any legal action against you."  The day before, on May 19, I received the identical phone call from 202-241-1366, and by Googling that phone number I discovered that it is a scam that several other people have received. The IRS will not contact tax offenders by telephone, they will send a letter by certified mail. If you receive a phone call from this number, file a complaint at www.ftc.gov

I received this today too; same exact message. I did not call back. The computer generated recording was quite the red flag in the first place. Thank you for posting your experience as well, Esther.

I had a robo voicemail left on my line that .... "or attorney of record" need to call back regarding an urgent time sensitive manner.  The robo lady's name is "Office Heather Gray from the Internal Revenue Service" and that I "shouldn't disregard this message and return the call so that they won't take any legal allegation against me"

RED FLAGS all over this.  Aside from the robo message having an accent (I am not kidding, it was the worst digital voice ever), the IRS won't call for this type of thing, and oh wait.  My taxes are in good working order...

For fun I called the number back (after 10 PM Pacific = really late almost anywhere else in the US) and got nothing.  Not even ringing.  Any real government agency has a phone tree or voicemail (ooo... more red flags).

Some things to note:  the caller ID matched the phone number listed in the message - only says District of Columbia.  Guess these crooks at least took the time to look up the area code. Please please, please, if you get a call from this number it is a scam.  Do not give them any information or any money and file a complaint with the FTC.

I received a similar robocall from this same number today (May 24, 2014).

Clearly IRS would not make a *phone call* for such a purpose ... even if there was a reason for them to call me, which by-the-way, there isn't.

Also, I had received such series of calls about a month or two back too. Initially I had ignored them all, then later I just called them back, someone actually answered, I firmly told him that they are committing a serious crime of fraud, and that they better stop calling me. They did at that time!! Seems they have started the same fraud campaign again now.

I received call from 202-241-2158. this is totally scam they call me on 5/26/2014. Monday is holiday how IRS open holidays. Do not answer any numbers that you don't know. before you answer the phone check in computer about there complaines.  Please do not pay any money to these kinds [***],CROCKS,JERKS.

Just received a call from these scam artists.  I am waiting for my refund of $85.00 so I know that this is a scam from scumbags.  Glad I have the blocker on my phone that blocks up to 1500 of these low life people who cannot get a real job probably because of felonies.  

I should spend $25 to file a complaint?? That's a load of crap! Another scam apparently.

Call 911 right away when you receive this number. The officers on the 911 line will tell you that this phone number is a scam.

Got a call!

I got the call yesterday and he was going to send the Sheriff to pick me up if I didn't make arrangements to pay  immediately.  I think that is what the trigger was, so I said bring it on.  Then I got a call back and he acted like he was the sheriff and said he would be here in 30 minutes and I told him I was here waiting on him.  Of course he didn't come.  Thank goodness I had heard something about a scam like this before I gave him any numbers.

It's an IRS Scam - guy admitted it on the phone.  Then told me to try an catch him.  I hope he burns in hell.  It's associated with a Magic Jack phone.  My call came May 30.  He told me he made $10,000 in four hours.

I received the same exact call as Ester describes below here on (5/20) but mine came on (5/30)  I also received a similar call a few months ago but it was the East Indian voice (Male) leaving the same message about an IRS issue.  Fake Fake fake They want you to call back and then they try to get you to begin making paymens via credit card Scam Scam Scam and this was actually reported in a D.C. newspaper article months ago.

Ditto!  I received the same exact message on 5/30 and a similar call from the same scam a few months back, but that time it was a male voice with a heavy East Indian accent.  that one was also reported on this site and the scam was reported in a D.C. news article a while back as I found it on this site.  Don't call back and thanks to everyone for posting their experience.  It helps those who take the time to look into it.

Thanks for the posting. I've got the same call yesterday. The first thing I did is searching IRS web site to understand how they contact taxpayers. I'm relieved to know that IRS use mail.  Then I bing the web and found your posting. Thank you and all folks who spent time to share their stories here to help others!
