Today I received a call (which I ignored) that resulted in voice message stating that a case had been filed against me on my name and SSN. And demanded that I do not ignore the message and call back the number with my lawyer! The caller did not provide any specifics about for what the case is and he did not even state my name. How are these people getting phone numbers? Do they just pick a random number and call?

I received the exact same phone call today on my answering machine!!! WTH?  Caller said he was "Officer Craig Miller" but he sounded Middle Eastern with a thick accent.  Did not sound like a Craig Miller to me!  And he said if I ignored the call he doesn't know what is going to happen to me. LOL  But, he didn't have my name, or any specifics of my so called case either.

Could you hear the sounds of "officer Miller's" camel's farting, as they rode together, through the streets of Calcutta?

Report the Calls to the real IRS here:
•report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
•You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov. Add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

    Annoyed
I got the exact same voice mail recording as the others above, the one about the criminal investigation unit filing a case against me.  Seems to me like a pre-recorded mass spam of the exact same message as no specifics were indicated. I'm totally annoyed and hope I don't get more phone calls like this one in the future.

I received the same voice message today (7/11). Officer Craig Miller from Criminal Investigations (did not say of what) demanding an immediate call back for a case getting filed against my name and SSN. He said "Do not ignore this message or else case will move forward and God Bless". He had a foreign accent - either middle eastern or Indian.

    "the luck"
Got this call yesterday and again just now. Ignored it both times and found the message left was identical and obviously recorded. Thick accent, generic "Criminal Investigation Unit", no mention of my actual name or SSN, no description of the case against me, etc.

He was kind enough to wish me "the luck" and say "god bless you". That made me feel special!

Friend of My Mother's Elderly Neighbor
It was a good thing I was able to listen to the message that was left on my mother's neighbor who is 86 years old. She also doesn't speak English very well. My mother didn't understand the threatening tone and was frightened by the man who said, "Return my call immediately. If you do not, then I cannot help you as the situation unfolds and charges against you will be filed." Same "Officer Craig Miller" from "criminal investigations." I made a digital copy of the recording just in case the local news does a story on this. Such a scam and awful that they prey on the elderly.

The exact same call from Craig Miller,  "Criminal Investigation Unit".  while I was driving and I hung up 7/12.
Received the same call this morning, and with the same, demanding an immediate call back for a case about getting filed against my name and SSN.

My client got a call from the IRS threatening to deport here at 202-241-2553.  I called it back and got "Internal Revenue Service, please leave a message"  Pathetic.  Then it said the mailbox could not receive messages.

I received the same today at home and then I called the number after the message was left on my answering machine, it is an Indian accent as it appears and he was talking about IRS and international transactions not reported and he didn't provide any information when I asked him to provide which transaction, what is the date of it, and to where or from where the transaction was, he was just threatening and said that if he tells me the details then I can use the information against them (them? who?).  It is a spam and the police, IRS and FBI should track this number.

Tracking ALL reports and comments from all websites, it is clear that this person, who is calling himself Criag Miller, started calling on July 11th and through today (16th), same messages, same threatening, same heavy accent (Indian as it sounds), and calling for a cell phone 202-241-2553, no government agency to call for official business from a cell phone.

This scammer needs to be tracked and charged.

By the way, the called ID shows "Out of Area", but the number is shown on the caller Id (202-241-2553), no officvial government agency will show and ID "Out of Area".

I reported todays call in detail to FTC, they should be able to track him and catch him.

Unfortunately these IRS scammers sit somewhere on the Sub-Continent and rely on Sub-optimal international law endorcement cooperation. Write to your representatives in Congress, only when political pressure gets big enough, will they send a drone to do the necessary job.....

Obviously some where in India, the number is a Washington DC but you can buy a magic jack and use it at any country so when calling it appears as if it is from Washington DC, however, reporting to FTC may help in looking after the address and locate the guy

I did reported to FTC yesterday after receiving a call from this guy who is calling himself officer Craig Miller of the Crime Investigation Unit, he may be calling from India and not from Washington DC, one person posted that he told the guy that he is recording the call and this caller said OK, so probably the call was not from Washington Dc
