After repeatedly ringing my phone until I answered, caller stated a member of my family had used my name and number as a reference while commiting "fraudulent activities".
Caller identified himself as "Officer Alan Taylor" When asked who he worked for he paused and stammered slightly mumbled something about United ... and then trailed off. I asked him to repeat that and he said "United Federal Crime Department."
This call was strikingly similar to ones I had been receiving about 2 - 3 months ago. I asked that person who they were and was told Officer so-and-so. Asked what type of officer; officer of the law or an officer of the company he worked for, caller could not give me an answer. I then told him since he could not answer my question he needed to stop calling my house.
These callers seem to be fishing for personal information.

I have been getting calls from this number and people for a long time now.  Told me I'm being sued and they wanted my lawyers name and number and that the sheriff is going to be serving me papers which were being faxed to the cop shop I don't know how many times and no one has showed up yet with anything.  I get a little irritated with them on the phone and when i can understand them they are rude back.  I'm gonna try some of your antics and see if I can get them to stop calling me - this is ridiculous~!  They just called me at my work and that pisses me off bad I told them to never call my employment again and I would call them back and this is the number they gave me and his name was Thomas Green.

I received a call this morning from this "company's" "legal department" stating that I had defaulted on a $250.00 loan that I have NEVER actually received. I got the number to what was supposedly Cash Advance so that I could talk to them about my "account". They, like the people I spoke with before, spoke VERY broken English and were VERY rude to me. When I asked to see proof that I had received the funds in question they said that before they were allowed to show any type of documentation the funds had to be paid back in full.

This is obviously a scam- they get you worked up and make you pay them only to be told that you never owed them anything. The scary part? They had all of my information. They knew my full name, address, the company I work for AND my SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER! I'll be attempting to find out who to talk to about that to see what can be done.

Yeah, Thomas Green was the name I received as well. And everyone I spoke with sounded as if they were tripping over their own names- i'm sure not one of the names given is true.

We have been receiving these calls for a few weeks now. They state that we took out a pay day loan from Cash Advance and that they are suing "against" my social security number. The guy that keeps calling us does not sound at all American and states that his name is David Williams. He was able to recite to me our checking account number, social security number, and place of employment. I informed him that I would not confirm any information with him and that I did not take out a pay day loan. He said that I would be without a job and my bank accoutn would be frozen within the hour LOL It seems that every time he calls he has a new bag of threats. When I asked him who I could contact in the United States to check on what he was saying he just said, "Anyone"...He stated that he was with the processing department of the United States. He said that he is tied to the FBI, etc. It was a total scam. He threatened to send the police to our house as well. It is ridiculous what these people do to try to scam others. We are closing the account that he recited the number to and have contacted our employer to report the threat. Do not give them any information because they already have it. I am not really sure what the point is because when I told him I was not paying him for a loan that I did not take he informed me that he does not want my money, that he makes plenty of money from the government......I think that it is about strong arming people so that they can get around to herding them to their bogus pay day loan company and at that point they take your money???

WEll I just got a call frrom a so called Jack Peterson, whose broken english was awful. Said he was from the FBI. I ran in to this problem before with thios guy but he had another alias. I transferred him to my cop shop at work and he hung up on them, and when the police called the number back, it was not in service. I am so sick and tired of this. i did change my bank account and got a new debit card. he must have tapped into records that only a few are supposed to know. he is doing it again. but doesn't know the current account info, and I would hope to keep it that way. Hope your situation gets better.

I had received a call from this number and I was told he was an officer and insisted I speak to him. I asked regarding what??? He could not give me a straight answer so I hung up on him. He called again then he said if I don't speak to him I would be further investigated. I hung up on him again then he somehow disclosed his # to a city police dept # said he was calling for info. I said give me your #. He gave me the one on my caller ID. I said I will call you back. He said no!!! I hung up on him. Called the # it was the city police. I explained to them what happened. An officer came to my house, checked my caller ID, took all the info and said they will investigate. There must be more I can do.

The earliest info I can find on this scam is February 2011. Tried to scam 4people I know. Info was directed to the FBI. Never give out any personal info on the phone. The call definitely an overseas connection and Caller calls himself Jack Peterson with heavy eastern indian accent with broken english, poses as an officer for law department in DC. When questioned heavily he hangs up. Know your rights and call the authorities.

Received a phone call from this number saying it was Kelly Smitz from the IRS and they are filing a lawsuit against our name if we do not call them back.  Few minutes later received another call from 202-241-8271 from the same Kelly and same message.  Heavy foreign accent.

This caller had called several times today and I finally answered it so that I could tell them to stp calling.  They asked for my son, using his first name.  He does not use his first name on anything.  When I asked if I could take a message, he began asking extremely profane questions.  His accent was very heavy, so I asked him to repeat and he started asking if I wanted to see his #%}€.  You can probably figure it out.  At that time, I told him that his caller id showed up on my phone and I would be reporting to authorities.  I also told him to never call again.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
    Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
    1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

    2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

    3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). Received several calls from this number.  First it was Ms. Kelly Smith from the collection department of the IRS in Washington, D.C. who left a message on the answering machine about a lawsuit and I should return the call in order for the lawsuit not to go forward.  I got another call which I answered and it was an agent Austin from the collection department of the IRS about a collection notice on my son's tax returns for the years 2008-2013 due to a calculation error. I informed him that I was a CPA, which I am, and that we had not received in notices in the mail from the IRS concerning collection notices.  He said the IRS had sent out notices and had not gotten any responses and that is why he was calling. He wanted my son's phone number and I refused to give it to him and I told him that we would not respond until we received official notification in the mail from the IRS.  He said the IRS was calling and we needed to respond and give him our lawyer's name or the case would go the court. I told him fine that we would see him in court. He said him was tried of messing with me and hung up.
