No, this is a number that's being spoofed by illiterate Indian frauds who are so ignorant that they think someone might buy their lines of BS. The IRS does NOT EVER initiate contact with ANYONE by phone! They use the United States Postal Service!
    Skeff Ett Liv!

Today, 7/9/14, I received a recorded message from a person named Shawn White saying he was from the IRS.  I returned the call and had to  leave a message.  He did call back sometime this afternoon with a very threatening message indicating that I was in trouble if I didn't return his call and all he could say was good luck.  He indicated his badge number was 16380.  I am not going to respond anymore.  If there is an IRS problem I expect a written response.

    Sure, sure
This an India based IRS scam (there are also Pakistan based ones). Do not fall for this. Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm
The IRS does not initiate any legal action over the phone. Report it also to your local law enforcement agency. The scammers use magicjack (Ymax corporation) voice over IP lines. This is against this company's terms of use and can lead to termination of their contract. However only law enforcement can initiate the contact with Ymax. Ultimately this is a case for the FBI legal attache in Delhi. but as one proud scammer once said to me over the phone: "Prime Minister Modi will never let you touch us." If you Re really annoyed call or srite to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction (and the NSA can finally be a force for good).

IRS usually doesn't call your house and if they do they will normally ask can I speak to Mr. Or Mrs. whatever the last name is.  I have known the to also contact you by mail.  They called my home this morning with a threating phone call and when I returned their called blocking my number they would answer and hang up.  Oh What A Scam!!!!

Total scammers. Pretendign to be from IRS and asking for money to be sent immediately by a prepaid card. Threatening jail. Once I said I was contacting the IRS directly they became nasty but hung up.

Report the Calls to the real IRS here:
•report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
•You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov. Add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

Who Do They Think They are Kidding?
I've been away for home for a week, called home to retrieve my messages (3 of them all exactly the same recording).   Who would actually fall for a dumb scam like this?  When I return home I'll be contacting our local police dept., our congressman, etc.
