Of course it is a scam from our good friends from across the big waters ,  usually India.  They have slowly changed their technique though.  Now they have transgressed into the same way they call pretending to be debt collectors trying to collect a debt under threat of sending a cop to arrest you within the hour.  How bogus.  True low life,  bottom feeding,   sewer rats they are.   Filthy scammers and hopefully more and more people are getting on to their thieving schemes.

A fool from India who could hardly understand me told me that the IRS has a warrant for my arrest because I owed $7,110.32 and that I needed an attorney for they are filing a law suite right now and the sheriff will be over within 45 minutes. What was dumbed was, he never asked me to identify myself neither did he know that I filed jointly. I did fall for it for a while after hanging up on him.
Question, if my cell is on the no call list, why am I being called? Am I being naive here? I guess so.

The people calling you are hard core scammer/extortionists working out of call centers in India.  As such they ignore all US laws and are beyond the reach of US law enforcement.  Call blocker  is your best bet.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
    Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
    1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

    2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

    3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). I had an extensive conversation with the guy after I called his bluff.
He told me was a member of ISIS, but I laughed at him. He said he was from Bangladesh (so he probably hates people from Bangladesh).
The do a  pretty good job of scaring you, try to send you to a "restitution department" for payment otherwise coming with the handcuffs.
This guy insisted he was born in the US, but if they are residing in the states can't believe this will last too long before they are busted.

Report the Calls to the real IRS here:
•report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
•You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov. Add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

They just called me 10 minutes ago and at first I was scared. Until he read the papers and I asked him why was he calling from a district of Columbia number and why haven't I received any mail about this. He said, we tried to call from a 1800 number but you didn't pick up. Then he said talk to the sheriff that comes to your house and hung up. I called the number back and the phone kept hanging up and now it's just busy.

Yes, I also got calls  several times from 202-241-7975,  but last month the same calls came from 202-369-7887.  The month before that is was a different number. I know its a scam because the first time I talked to the person calling and when I heard the name is was asking for I knew it was not the IRS, because that is my nickname and not the name I use on my taxes.  I block all the calls from that area code when they come in, but they keep changing their number what can be done?
