Suspicous IRS similar scam

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). Received call from private number asking me to call 2022418348 being sues by the irs

says that they are from internal revenue service sending some one to arrest some one right now if we do not cooperate

A scam as a result of Muslim culture problem. Started as a voice message claiming it was from the IRS and that we needed to call back.  I told my wife to ignore the scam, but sweet as she is, she called back.  A fake IRS agent in the criminal division started threatening us jail.  I take the phone and tell the idiot I know that this is a scam.  He sputters and threats to have the cops come to my house.  I cuss at him. He starts talking in some foreign language, allah *****, allah *****. Terror in a different form, courtesy of Islam.

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

just got another recorded call from 202-241-8348 saying they were IRS and I was being sued for money I owe them. These are SCAMMERs and not very good at that,  it sounds so unprofessional. Just to have some fun I called back and said I'll see them in court and that they will be paying me. In their frustration it was obvious they are foreigners, muslim sounding sand fleas or something.

I received a call for the same message and almost falled into the trap.

Claims that IRS had file a law sue against me

A computer generated female voice left a message that she is calling from IRS, and that the IRS filing a suit against and to call them ASAP at this number 202-241-8348 from an UKNNOWN caller id. I know it is scam. My number is UNLISTED.

     I have the same situation that received phone call from a woman mentioned about IRS filed a lawsuit against me , and have i call back asap at the phone number 202 241-8348 for more informations. Things happened like this , to some people might cause unnecessary panic, nervous, worries, sickness or etc. In this case, what we can do? Should we report to police or IRS? So they can take action to stop the scams spread out , keeping people out of scams and avoiding bad people taking advantage from it. It is criminal! I am sure it is going to happen to a lots

This is my second time to get a call as the people said he/she is call from IRS. The first time call was happened few months ago, a man with the Idian accent said he is from IRS and I got some tax legal problem. I asked what is his boss name and phone number? I will call back to check. Also I told him IRS never make a call for some tax legal issue they always send a letter with very detail explaination about the problem. Why direct call me at this time. He did not give me answer and hanged phone up. I believe it is criminal call and we need to make a report to police and IRS to protect more people to get the criminal calls.

I received a voice mail in Chinese accent. I returned the call. The accent changed to Arab, Indian, Pakistani, difficult to tell. He tell I must find money to pay IRS fine within hours, or he send police to arrest me. I heard Muslim prayer call in the background while he was talking. I ask him why I hear Muslim prayer call in the background and he sound a scammer. He yell at me.

Received a recorded call from this number saying that there will be a lawsuit if I do not call them and respond.

9-25-2014 -- Received a call this morning from 385 313-3975 Utah stating that I needed to call the IRS at 202 241-8348 and that I owed a lot of money.  This is a scam!

its my third time to get this call. saying I I have to call them right away for I have being sued by IRS. This scummer need to be punished with death sentence or maximum penalty...They are disgrace into this earth we are living scamming people who are working hard. they should have to get a decent job

Received call this morning and  asked me to call 2022418348 for I am  being sues by the irs

Received a heavy female voice recorded message that this is final notice of a lawsuit filed against me from IRS.  The phone number is 202-241-8348.   Don't be panic.
