Automated message saying Officer Julie call from IRS and I need to call back or my attorney needs to call back

Apparently Julie Smith needs my bank accnt and SSN right now before I get my wages garnished. Haha. Nice try

Got an automated voicemail just now, claiming to be IRS. Sounds legit :)

Irs scam, screwed with them for an hour or so with with my 15 fake numbers and names.

IRS said call back ASAP and not to disregard thins phone call. Extremely urgent.

I received a voice mail message (apparently pre-recorded) from someone claiming to be "Julie Smith" from the IRS, requesting that either I or my attorney call this number back ASAP.  I did not call back; instead I looked up the number on this site, and it seems to be a scam.

Received an urgent voicemail from attorney Julie smith from the IRS to call right away before further action is taken. Yeah, right! FYI folks, the IRS will always send you documentation in the US mail, not call you like this! Beware, it's a scam.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). Good job!  I love keeping these people on the phone (if I have time), just to screw with them. Sad that some people actually fall for this scam.

Officer Julie wants me or my attorney of record to call her immediately regarding my IRS problem.  I hung up, tracked the call and called back.  I got a foreign speaking individual who answered "Internal Revenue Service, Investigations Department".  I said, "Is this a legitimate call" and he said, "Yes it is legitimate, do not call."  He hung up.

I had 2 messages on my answering machine from a guy who listed this as the call back number.  I called and he told me there was an affadavit? and to give him my lawyer's information.  He said they've tried to contact me and someone came to the door and I wasn't here so they can't tell me any more information since they sent it to court but apparently I owed $2800 in backtaxes. I will pursue anything I possibly can to make these people STOP this permanently.

Got message from this # stating that they were the law office of Julie Smith calling to let me know my bank account was going to be seized, and a lien on my home. When I told the guy I no longer owned the home and wasn't working, he said they could send me a statement after I paid them $500! I then called the IRS, and was told this is a scam.

RexIRS, Thanks for your post of 10,Sep 2014 in reply to Diane.  Got one of those calls today.  Attempted twice to return the call, but no answer.  Decided to check into this, and was fortunate to read all the posts regarding this scam.  Many thanks to you and all for the info.

I literally just received the automated telephone call claming to be "Julie Smith with the IRS" i told them nice try and hung up... Stupid people. Not falling for it. Luckily I just hung up and looked this number right away.

There's nothing anyone can do.  They are hard core Indian scammer/extortionists and as such outside the reach of US law.
Call blocker is your best bet.
