They called today, Washington DC, it's the "American Lung Assoc." wanting me to stick my neighbors with their solicitation envelopes.  I've blocked 5 of their phone numbers so far.
I told them,,,,, again,,,,,  to stop calling and will block this new number.
I've found the best way to stop their robot calls is to disconnect the answering machine.   I'm stuck this week because of family activity but will do so next week. When the answering machine kicks in they know it's a good number and the robot keeps calling.

Thanks for the explanation I don't answer phone when I don't recognize caller, others have said the caller reads ALA, which I would take to believe as you said American Lung Assoc.

They call several times a day.  My neighbor canvased the "hood" for donations several years ago.  Now, I get calls and unwanted mail monthly.  Thank goodness for caller ID.  They never leave a message.   I just don't answer.

For the past 5 days have received calls from this number every morning about 8AM. Never answer it but it really is a disruption in the morning. They also call from 202-350-0488 - same people. I've blocked those two numbers but have limited blocking with our Comcast phone. Would love to know how to get rid of them, they keep reinventing themselves.

They call at least once a day, Driving me NUTZ,  Caller ID ALWAYS says ALA.  When the answering machine kicks in, their robocall is not even programmed to hang up!  So they spend bucks letting the machine continue B4 their machine FINALLY terminates the call.  I KNOW they are searching for money from PPL, but I never EVER contribute to a "so-called charity" when I KNOW that they are using a 3rd party to do the collecting, for this means that it is likely that 95% of the money that anyone decides to send goes to the THIRD PARTY, leaving VERY LITTLE for the charity itself.  This is the time of year that they all start hammering phone lines for $$$$$$$.  IF you care about ALA, then contribute directly - PERIOD!!  And... be prepared to be hammered with charity calls for the next 4 months!!!

Woman asks to speak with Mr. or Mrs. *****, I say "may I ask who is calling?" She pauses and rudely states "ONLY if I can speak with Mr. or Mrs. *****!" I say "Well then, neither are available." She sounds flustered and hangs up. They call a few times a week.

    tired of calls
it is a third party calling on behalf of the american lung assoc. they call under several numbers from the d.c. and seattle areas, when i was rudely waken today before 6am i asked them to stop, thats when i was treatesd like i had been the rude one and they insisted on all my personal info so they could look me up in the system and block thier own calls.  I hung up and called the local ala office and when i asked to speak to someone about it i was told everyone in the office was on "sick leave" and was promptly hung up on.

I would like to ask them to wait, set the phone by my music player, and play some Pantera for them while I go off an do other things.

But honestly though, I don't have any Pantera. ALA keeps calling and I keep not answering. It's an understanding we have.  They also call on 202-350-0286, and so it goes.

They do good work though, and they have been around for many years, when getting TB and other serious respitory ailments of yesteryear were not all that uncommon. My own grandmother had brown lung, for instance... and the lead singer of Pantera sounds like he has a serious lung ailment too, but I still enjoy listening to them on my radio station.

Give to the United Way, to the general fund, and that settles my charity fix for the year.

Those annoying ALA calls have been at it for months - never anyone on the line, just blank. Fortunately, I have a Panasonic answering machine with the 2 remotes - it was only $40 and it has Call Block!
But ALA comes up with  different numbers so I add it to the call block. The calls have thinned out over the past month. I complained to the do not call but that does not help.
I remember a computer guy I knew in the 90's said there is a code that can be dialed in to sabotage the robot calling machine. I wish I could find that guy now.
He also said there is a program which just calls a number over and over for people who have cheated you.
I never did ask about that.
The weirdest thing is there is never, ever anyone on the other end of the line, so what's the point?..

ALA was calling CONSTANTLY. I always let answering machine pick it up. Caller would hang up and I would be left a message of a dial tone. I did as John B. suggested above. I shut off the answering machine. The calls stopped after one day. (Thank you John B!). I haven't turned it back on yet- I will after one week.
