Caller said his name was Jack. Had a foreign accent. He claimed that the government gives away $9,000 in grant money to 1500 citizens every year - citizens who have "paid their dues" and have not been involved in any criminal activity. I told him I didn't need any grant money and he promptly hung up on me. BEWARE.

I just got this.  She couldn't pronounce, or even spell  "Grants".
Somebody on Facebook posted something yesterday that said we can now get spam calls on cell phones.  I ignored it as misinformation, but this is the second similar called I've received in two days.  Good luck to us all.

BEWARE! Got a call from this number asking to get my card or account information so that they could give me $9,000. Of course, I did not give them the information. Then I proceeded to have a bit of fun and crack them. The guy asked if I had a girlfriend and then when I asked to speak to his supervisor he responded with "Why?". Also, I asked what Government agency he was calling from and he said "Health and Human Services" LOL.

They are most likely using a computer to dial numbers at random.

You should have told him that you used to work for that same department, but you were promoted to Federal Technical Support Bureau of Computer Technology and see what he said.

    Good luck to you.

This group is very busy this afternoon.  My friend and I both got calls comcerning the $9000 grants.  Sounded like a big noisy call center in India.  Poor English language skills.

same story as below: said I got $9,000 in grant money. Wanted my bank info. I told him I work for the federal government and said I needed to speak to his supervisor. He of course immediately hung up on me.

They called me while I was driving home Friday. I said it sounds too good to be true, so I told them to call me back. They said they would call me back tomorrow, which was Saturday, at 10:30. Then I knew it had to be a scam, because if there was a government agency that gave money back to the taxpayers, it wouldn't be one that was open on the weekends.

When they called me back the next day I asked them if they knew my name, because, how could they give money to me and not know my name, right? The lady said, in her broken English, that the Treasury department had my name. When I asked why I couldn't just get a check, she said the Government's policy isn't to give checks or cash, and that she needed a bank account or credit card number that didn't have a zero or negative balance. When I asked why not, she said it is their policy. So I said that I was going to open a bank account and put a quarter in their, and if that was ok, she said no.

So I finally said it sounded too good to be true, and why should I believe her, and she got upset and said that I asked her to call me back and she did, then hung up... So, yeah, definitely not a legit government organization.

I got a call today for the same thing, man named Eric I believe with an accent. I knew it was a scam from the start because of where I work and when I told him it was a scam and I was getting a police report he hung up on me hahaha. But this is the first time I have been able to answer also, usually they hang up before I reach the phone.

Just as everyone else got this call from (202)410-0016, a number I did not recognized. While he was giving me his speech for offering grants of $9000.00 from the goverment to good law abiding citizens I looked up the number on the computer and "scam was all over it. So beware what sounds to good is to good.

I got a call today from this number, but it disconnected shortly after hearing a female voice say, "Sir I'm calling to...."    So glad I checked on here before trying to call the number back.    Thanks to all for reporting this scam.
