another Ray Clark, San Diego. Claims to be a petroleum engineering contractor working on a rig in the UK, for Shell Petroleum in Scotland for the past 4 years. I met him on face book. Supposedly graduated from Ohio Sate University. He say he lives in San Diego but his 15 year old daughter, Amanda, lives with her nanny Mai Griffin in Kentucky. Says his birth date was Aug 8, 1957, widowed with a 15 year old daughter, the love of his life. One day after contacting me he asked me to send his daughter $500.00 for her birthday  on Aug 26TH. I went along with him and said sure, where do i send it. He said to send it to Mai Griffin, 1125 Rose Rd, Somerset, Kentucky. Phone number 202-455-8888. I looked it up and a 60+ May Griffin does live there along with 3 others but no Amanda. I can only assume May Griffin is an accomplice. The phone numbers he gave me are 619-786-4062 and 202-455-8888 plus a number which came up blank.
How can anyon ebe stupid enough to think anyone would send $500.00 to a 15 year old?

This is a call from Google to verify an access code.  I requested an alternate call since I didn't have my phone and the app to receive my logon code.

All the message boards say this number is from a person who tries to collect money for a "birthday" gift for a relative. This person is repeatedly calling my cell phone. I don't answer calls from unknown numbers, but I do look them up immediately just in case it is legit. This one is not.

    Legit from Google
A client posted two YouTube videos as private that she wanted to share with me (I do tutoring over the phone and they were videos of her kids doing some of the exercises).  YouTube required me to login to see the videos, and create/activate the Google/YouTube account.  After you give them a User ID and password, if you specify "call me to activate the account", an automated call from this number arrives with an activation code that you will need to type in to complete setting up the account (my bank uses the same authentication system as the recorded lady had the same voice).  It was in this case, the call was legit.

However, be aware that there is telemarketing equipment out there that allows the telemarketers to type in the number they wish to have displayed in the recipient's Caller ID display.  They can type in any number they wish, whether toll free, legit or spoofed.

It appears that the scam artist mentioned by "missed agian" (sic), had spoofed a legitimate number.  "Llama's Mama" reported what others have said, and not what she personally experienced.  If you were setting up a Google or YouTube account, and are expecting a call, pick it up.

Call from this number was Google Voice calling to verify my phone for my Google Voice account. However, I have also had scammers attempt to hijack my cell phone and landline numbers using this same number, asking you to enter a two digit code into the system so "they can connect" to you. Found out they had hijacked my cell phone number and had to attempt to reclaim it. Please be wary of anyone asking you to enter a code so "they can connect" to you. Very hard to get number back you would almost have to change your number if nothing else worked... There are also complaints in Google Voice that indicate they will give legitimate numbers of others out to collection agencies, etc...

I got a call from this number and I didn't answer it. I don't answer my phone if I don't recognize the number that's calling me. If they need some thing, the individual will typically leave a voice message..otherwise, I just ignore them because it's spam.

    PEOPLE, PEOPLE, PEOPLE!!!!!

Do NOT verify ANY information about ANYTHING unless YOU make the call to THEM!

If it's actually google, they would email you through your google account!
Even if it really is google, they are breaking the first rule of internet safety!

NEVER GIVE OUT INFORMATION ON THE PHONE WHEN THEY CALL YOU!
Even if it's your bank or ANYBODY do NOT just give out information!
Tell them you will call them back and then LOOK UP THE PHONE NUMBER YOURSELF!
If they give you the number to call back it could just as easily be their own home or cell number and as long as they answer the phone with a business name, you still couldn't be sure.

DON'T MAKE IDENTITY THEFT OR SCAMMING YOUR BANK ACCOUNT, PAYPAL ACCOUNT CREDIT CARD OR ANYTHING ELSE EASY FOR THEM!
And if they see that you are being cautious they will think it would be too much time & trouble to scam you and go on to try someone easier.

I received a text from google first with a verification code.  Then seconds later got a phone call with a message about the verification code.  I didn't ask for any of this and have been looking all day to get incontact with Google to make sure that no one is using my personal information to get what they want.

    Stop calling
They have called me already 3x today, with the last waking me up at 1:30am. All 3x they left a message, "I'm sorry I didn't catch that please re-enter your activation code. This is obviously a scam of some type and per other callers I won't pick up the call.

Good gosh, everyone calm down! When you set up Google Voice, they make a confirm call to the # you provided to forward your GV # to. This 202# appears as the inbound #. That is it.
