Man with thick Russian accent made threats claiming to represent the IRS. SCAM!

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for this.

The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone. The scammers use voice over IP lines (e.g. magicjack (Ymax corporation). This is always against these companys' terms of use and can lead to termination of their contract. However only law enforcement can initiate the contact if you yourself are not a customer. Therefore, report it also to your local law enforcement agency. Ultimately this is a case for the FBI legal attache in Islamabad or New Delhi. If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction (and the NSA can finally be a force for good).

As your constituent, I am writing to urge you to demand decisive action from the FBI, the IRS and other federal agencies against organized crime directed against American citizens from abroad.

As widely reported by local and national media all across the United States and warned about by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (see http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm) a tidal wave of fraud using Internet phones has hit the United States. Millions of dollars already have been stolen by criminals impersonating federal officers while hiding in countries like India and Pakistan, where most of the calls originate. There seems to be no end of it in sight.

I have personally been targeted by these scammers but it is the most vulnerable among us that I am concerned about primarily. The scheme is specifically singling out those that can least defend themselves against these crimes, in particular the elderly. I am also worried that given the origin of these gangsters, the money stolen from US citizens may be used for financing of terrorism or other activities directed against the national interests of the United States. But in spite of this clear and present danger to our country and its citizens I have seen no action worth mentioning by the FBI, the IRS or other federal agencies so far.

As a member of Congress overseeing the law enforcement agencies tasked with fighting fraud and ensuring national security, I implore you to make sure that they act on these threats and are given all the necessary resources to target these criminals in cooperation with foreign law enforcement.

Got a call from this number asking for Swati Patel, I told them they had the wrong number they then ask for my name when I ask them who they were the man told me he wanted to "F" me, & went on to being very vulgar, I hung up & they called back 2 more times

Everyday when I get home, we have atleast 3 or 4 calls & messages from this number. Well, today I was home & answered knowing it was a scam as we've had this happen before. They proceed to tell me they are the IRS and we owe them money. Of course I'm asking them all kinds of questions letting them know I'm not stupid, that they couldn't answer. He proceeds to transfer me to someone else who claims to be a Sr. tax criminal investigator officer. I ask him to spell his name for me and he ask why? He got angry at me and told me he would just go ahead and send the police to arrest me bc I wasn't answering his questions. I told him better yet I would save him the phone call, and I would call them myself to tell them of this scam and as you would guess he hung up on me!!! LOL!!!  Please don't fall for this!!!!!

We received 2 calls  & and angry messages with thick Indian accent made threats claiming to represent the IRS. SCAM!

I received a call on this number today (7/29/14) and did not pick it up.  I could hardly understand it because of the poor quality of the VOIP connection.  No ones name was mentioned and we were told we  need to call back about a serious legal matter and that our attorney at hand.  He said he was officer John Parker.If you don't return the call about the items here, the only thing I can do is wish you very good luck about the legal situation. Blah, Blah, Blah.  Glad I looked up the number as I knew we didn't have any legal situations that needed attention!  

Received foreign person call today regarding taking legal action and wishing me very good luck.  Scam!!

Two messages left.  Both were making threats of a court action if i did not call back, but did not  say what was the motive for the call.  The caller had a thick foreign accent and could not even pronounce my name.  Moreover, it was an automated call!

That's exactly the call I got but the name of the "officer" was different!

We received this call several times over the past few days.  Same MO: man with a foreign accent and a computerized voice saying he represents the IRS and we have a serious legal matter, etc... I wish they would stop calling.

I hate to break it to you, but Congress doesn't monitor this website. Not sure where you apparently got the idea that they did.

If you read a little higher it shows you the addresses you need to send this letter to to get something going against these IRS scammers....I am afraid that Senators hardly ever read this site (unless they themselves receive a call.....maybe some of them do)

I also have received call from this number 202-459-9868 in Indian saying that I have an issue with IRS, if I don't take any actions right at the moment I will get arrested and will have to go to the court.  I asked what I need to do to fix the problem he told me I have to talk to his supervisor and send $4850.00.  It is a SCAM!!!

About 10 minutes ago, two identical calls came within 10 minutes from each other from this scam number.  "IRS Officer John Parker" threatened immediate legal action unless ...... blah blah blah ....  The first time my name was not mentioned.  The second time my first name was used.  Scary that they got my name!!!

Received this message from a kid with an Indian accent reading from a script. The text was transcribed automatically.

"This call is from the IRS Internal Revenue Service. This message is intended to you. The ready second you receive this message I need you or your retained attorney off record to return the call. The issue at hand is extremely down sensitive and very urgent. My name is officer Mike Johnson. The number to reach me directly on my division is 2024599868. i-repeat(?) that's 2024599868. Don't disregard this message and do return the call for-don-or(?) Don regarding fire don't heal from your journey either then the only thing I can do is wish you good luck as the situation badly unfolds on you. Goodbye."

There was another one earlier. I suspect they scour Facebook and G+ for you name.

And another call 30 minutes later, this time from a different "agent". Since this is an overseas call on a noisy line spoofed from a Washington, DC number, there were intermittent gaps and pops in the sound. Here it is for your delectation:

"You or your retained attorney off racket to return the call. The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive business officer John Parker and the hotline to my dealership is 2024599868. I repeat for you. 4599868. Don't disregard this message. Andrew you call now. If you don't return the call. If I don't see-you-from(?) your attorney either then the only thing which I can do is to wish you a very good luck as the legal to tell-you-that-the-folds(?) on you. Till then take care and have a great day."

Checked with my accounting firm. They say this is a known scam. The phone number is associated with a mobile phone.
