The call was from someone supposedly representing the IRS

I got two calls from them the first a couple of months ago saying I was picked for a grant of 5000 dollars it was free and I didn't have to pay it back I told them to shove it!!!! And the second was today saying that if I didn't call the number back that the police will be here within 72 hours to arrest me!!!

Why would anyone call me and tell me that if I don't call back, the law enforcement will be right in my doorstep. Who are this people? Are they scammers calling and intimidating innocent  people, such as myself.  I have never ever been in trouble with the law.

this call is disturbing!  "Stop what you're doing and call immediately or law enforcement will be at your door"... For what? This should be illegal! I'm searching further to see who this is...

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

This is a scam. If I am contacted again I will push forward with harassment and make it a real legal situation.

I recited this phone call and I told the lady that I haven't filed taxes in years I don't work my husband takes care of that stuff and she said my local sheriff's office is sending someone to arrest me I had my lawyer look into it and it's definitely a SCAM!!!

Same scenario.  I will be arrested if I don't call back.  Scam!

Same here.  I called my police department immediately, but it still scared me half to death.  For one thing when you call the IRS the first thing you get is a recording.  "John" # 757508 never answers!  I hope nobody actually falls for this.

Yea this number just called me they said I havnt paid my taxes I'm 3 years and i will be arrested in 45 minutes

police won't do anything

They called me 4 times yesterday.  Get a police whistle.  I finally called the number back, when they know your name because they dialed your number, unsolicited at that.  When the girl asked me my name, I told her to tell me my name since she called my house 4 times.  I asked her for her name and she refused.  I told her that real Federal Gov't agents are required by law to identify themselves.  That's when some guy started screaming at me "Listen to me, listen to me. the police are going to areest you!"  I said well how are they going to areest me if you don't know my name, then you don't know my address either and I"m calling from a cell phone that can't be traced.  That's when I blew the whistle in their ear.  Now the number is out of order. Dont' count on the police or the US Treasury Dept Fraud Department to do anything about this.  The Feds are too busy stirring up trouble in Ferguson MO to show up on anybody's doorstep

This number is saying that I will be arrested for no reason given?

This was recently on ABC News.  These are scammers trying to scare money out of innocent people.  Just hang up on them.  The IRS doesn't operate like that.  The IRS, if needed, will contact you by mail in official mailing.  And, please, NEVER give out ANY information over the phone....especially if they called you.  The IRS will never ask for your social security number, bank information or any other personal information over the phone.  I hope this helps.  Perhaps you can look up the story on ABC's web site.
