Who is this? They say grant money, are they legal?

I got the same call and was trying to find out the same information.  Are they legal?  Did you get an answer when you called the number?

These people are saying that you have been selected to receive a grant.  But you have to give them $200 in order to get it.  They also ask for credit card or bank account numbers.

Husband just got the call. Send them 110.00 processing plus 10.00 for Western Union. They will send us 7,000.00 within minutes. saying it is a reimbursement of income taxes. I don't like it when I can't even understand what they are saying. Maybe that is part of the plan to get us to not ask a bunch of questions.

They r scams don't send any money

If this happens to you please contact your attorney general’s office and file a complaint!  Please do not call this number back because if you are on the DO NOT CALL list then this will give them permission to continue to call your number!  And DO NOT give out ANY of your personal information!!!!  This could also be a number being used by SPOOF.  Meaning they enter a number in and they could be outside of our country. BE WARE

I received a call from this number, said they were calling me from Washington DC, said they were from the US Grants Department and I had been awarded a grant of $7000 that I would not have to pay back. I was selected from the census and some other criteria. He gave me my money confirmation # and the ph# to call to claim it. I called the  202-470-1238 number Bryan Williams ask me to sand $200 I sand it on top of half of the sales tax which is $700.00 plus $15 to sand it . Next day I gat call again this time 202-621-0089 David Jonse hi told me my grant is $14.000.00 and I need to pay tax $700.00 last time and I need to go US bank to receive the many. I went they don’t give my they can give only $7000.00 but my grant is $14,000.00 the let   me go that day next day I gat call again from David Jonse hi told me  they call me again 646-736-7991 IRS ask delivery many $1999.00 and hi side this is last time but is not they calling back 316-444-3100 ask me

Also just got contacted.  First caller notified me that I was contacted because I paid my taxes on time, which I did not, and that they did a criminal check on my and I did not have a criminal background, which is true, so I was going to receive a government grant of 7000.  Call 202 470 1238 and give them a number, which she gave me, and they will tell mehow to get the money.  So I did this while I was looking the # up on line, and read about the scam here.  The man on the line proceeded to tell me I needed to send 350 before I could get the tracking number to Western Union to get the 7000, and the 350 would go to the homeless.  I told him I was looking up his number while we spoke and he became silent, and hung up....

The funniest thing just happened. I just received a phone call for an phone number that I had never seen before, and the person on the other line was a foriegn man who told me that I was eligible for a 7000 federal grant. He gave me another number to call, who was suppose to be his supervisor. she was also foriegn, and she told me to go to the western union and give them 210 dollars which would be donated to a charity. And all that was done I was wait for about 10 minutes and I should have my money. She even said that she would stay on the phone with me until the money was received. Something told me check the number and WOW what did I find out..... IT WAS A SCAM!!!!!!!

I got the call a few times i looked up the area code and saw all these stories so i called the number back telling them i was at western union and the lady said she will have to call me back after a few minutes she called me back and told me to get the green paper at western union and told me the person name to send it to so i was like wat company you work for again she said its a government grant.i ask y shuld i send money to receive money cant they take it from the $5000 am supposed to be getting she said the $190 was to verify that it was me WHAT THE HECK. after that she asked me to read the confirmation code to her that i received at western union so i told her i don't so .so i told the lady if she need money so badly get a job like everybody else.and to remove me of their calling list or the police would be involve she was like ok i won't be callin u again.BEWARE her name was Helen Dixon and she had a very strong accent.

Yes I got the same phone call and I live in Illinios. I waited for 30 to 40 min. and then called the number and the lady answerewd and wanted me to explain to her what the green send money form looked like to her. for i can send $200 to homeless children for i wouldnt get taxed on $7000. if westeren union found out that it was coming from the goverenment they would tax the money and i would only end up with $4000 out of $7000.

A guy with an accent called me and told me I was chosen to receive a $7000 federal grant. He gave me a approval code and the gave me a number to call. Sharlen Clark answered and she told me that I would have to send $200 to them through western union. First she said this was going to be a check sent to a charity in my name. I told her I didn't have any money and she said that if I coup come up wit $100 then this would be fine that this would help go towards fees for sending the money through western union. I called back two days later and the same lady answers and says that its just to make sure that the money will come through since it is a large amount. These people are FRAUDS. Don't send them anything and I will be reporting them TODAY.

They are absolutely NOT a legitimate company! They will ask you to western union a100.00 in which they will call a processing fee. As soon as the money is sent they will stop contact and you will never get the so called grant money as you were promised. I promise you that it is a SCAM that is being ran out of India. So do not waste your hard earned money in hopes of receiving a government grant because you will be sadly disappointed!

Not legitimate and is illegal!  Don't fall for it!

Thank you so much for the information you reported.  I was laid of a month ago and am desperate for money but they are calling from a boiler room and also say they are from the US goverment.  I have asked them several questions which they could not answer. They have been calling every day, 4 times plus per day and I finally asked for there phone number which led me to you.  Thank you for taking the time to post this scam as I think alot of people are following into to it due the the state of the economy.

Company saying they are with the US department and i WAS CHOSEN FOR A $7000.00 Grant, just need to pay $3.44 for shipping.  I told them I needed more information as I could hear a lot of chatter in the background aludding me it was  a boiler room and a SCAM.  Never gave them my information, but did call them back from my home phione number which scares me a little.  They need to be stopped as they call restricted and call several times per day.  The phone number the lady gave me was 202-470-1238.

I just got a called from Jennifer Jones and Mandy Washington asking me to send the $150 to receive $7,000 government grant.  SCAMMERS

Thank goodness for the internet, Thanks to you, the phone number to call and the oh so inportant conformation number are in the trash. I'm in Florida and just got the call about an hour ago, I called Verizon to report this scam but I was told this call was based out of the far East. Then comes back to some third party. And the monies somehow make it back East. Just one big scandel. So if you get a call saying you earned a Grant for $7,000.00 and tells you to call 202 470-1238 with a conformation number; just hang up.
