I got a call from an unknown number, I decided to pick it up for giggles knowing it would probably be some prank caller, they told me they were from the Government and that I have won a "once in a lifetime" grant from the government, they then gave me this number 202-470-5952 to call and receive my information about my grant. When I called my phone said the caller ID was District of Columbia and when they answered they said they were from the Government, they told me that because I paid my bills on time ( which I do not have any as I just turned 18) and because I had no bankruptcy, that they are sending me a tax refund when I do not even have a job, also they said I was 1 of 1700 people that were chosen for this grant. He asked what payment I would want my money in I said cash, then he said it would be at the Western Credit Union and that when I got there I would have to call him so that he can walk me step by step on what to do, then he said I needed my identification card and 200 dollars for a security deposit that I would get back. I did not do it but please beware of this call. The guy said his name is Alex Johnson but has an accent of someone from a different country that  would not have such a common name like that.

They have been calling me from time to time.  What are these people stupid to think, we don't realize it's a scam.
I hope nobody is as stupid as them, to actually send them any money.  It's crazy!!!!

 My experience was the same as the 18 year old. Was given the same speil about no bankruptcy etc. Felt it was a scam so I played along, noted the # & decided to report it.  BEWARE: IF it sounds too good to be true, it's not !!!!!

I received a call from an 800 number indicating I won a grant. They told me to call 2024705952 to accept my grant number.  It was rather funny because while I was talking I googled the number  and like I suspected it was listed as a scam.  His name was John McDonald and he wanted me to send him $99.  He kept saying this is not a scam. Ok, but that was exactly what it was.

Just received a call saying I was chosen for a government grant (over $5000) for paying bills on time, paying taxes, etc. Was told to call 202-470-5952 right away and give them a specific code to claim my grant. Didn't call. I find it a little bizarre when someone who barely speaks English is offering you a government grant from the AMERICAN government. Things that make you go hmmmm! Please beware of these types of scams.

We got the same call what a scam

Just got the same call with the same instructions. Knew right away it was bull. I couldn't understand the lady and I was turned off by that. So I couldn't pay attention because all I could hear was scam, scan,scan. I did a search and all you guys popped up. Thank God for the internet. All anyone has to do is search. Don't know why these people are still trying this. But the old warning says,  "there's one born every minute".

The exact call came to me this morning. I called the guy back and gave him a huge reaming! He kept insisting this was real. I said to send me a check! Since when does the government use western union?  I am still LMFAO!!!!!

So I got this call, collected all the info. Jesse instructed me to call this number so that I can get my money today. "once in a lifetime" and "today only". I said okay but I'm not going to give my account number. call disconnected right away after I said that. Called anyway to be one more voice here describing a scam. I answered questions in beginning that didn't include any account info. government will transfer funds to western union. you need valid Id and cell phone to get money. go to western union and call this number from parking lot for further instructions. haha. I asked, do I need any money to get this money? yes you need $200 refundable security deposit. what?!?!

Received an anonymous call today; was informed I was to receive $9,200.00 grant from the federal government.  All I had to do was call 202-470-5952 and give the code MC502 and answer some questions.  I asked why can't you just send me the check and the call was disconnected.  Needless to say, I did not call this number.

some  are landlines...many  are  cell phones...some  are  spoofed  and  linked  to  offshore foreign call centers  /  countries !!!!
we've  traced  back  most  of  these  numbers  to  offshore  foreign    call centers mostly  in   INDIA /  THAILAND / AFRICA  /  JAMAICA  ETC....

here's a  few  other  numbers  posted  from  the   same  area  code  offering a  wide  variety  of  scams  /  fake  emails and  scams  after  posting  something  on   craigslist   (  old  scam  )  ...... collecting  for  non  existant  "  payday  loans "....free  money / scam  giveaways /  calling  on  behalf  of  a  humane  society..... $1,000's  in  free  gov't  money.........  etc  etc.....stories  change  out  all the  time......and  the  usual  nonsense!!!
