Received call from 2025068601 - claimed to be IRS Criminal Investigations unit in DC and that a lawsuit was being filed against me immediately for violations of IRS code.  Also proceeded to list a series of counts filed against me.  Initial voice message was automated message from a Julie Smith advising to call immediately.  When I returned the call and asked for Julie Smith I was referred to her supervisor Ray Miller - ID #B-14671.  Seems like a scam.

I had the same call that Franco previously reported.  Same people, same phone number.  This is awful.  Elderly people can easily fall for this.  These people need to be locked up!

She had accent, sounded like scam . don't call back these people are looking for easy money. Make aware your senior citizens, spread the word.

My step-father was called yesterday. Who then had asked my mom to call. She was talking to Jose M. (Not sure what the last name is, he told her but I was just overhearing this all happen) He told her, she needed to come up with a certain amount of CASH money within the hour or they would seize everything and she would be arrested. After telling him she didn't have that kind of money in the bank he dropped the amount to $1500. She panicked and asked me to borrow money. She was told to call him back when she got money. So I drove to the bank to get money out for her and she called him back. I could hear he had an accent then wanted her to stay on the phone with him as I drove her to Meijer. This is sounding more and more fishy to me.. I see the note pad my mom has the number wrote on and start googling the number and found this page. After showing my mom the things I'd found, she asked how she really knew they were the IRS. He said "I never asked for your bank info" eventually he hung up on my mom.

They were minutes away from getting money from her. PLEASE NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS..about how far the situation got. On a general day to day basis, it would have been something she caught onto a lot sooner.

But When you're in a panic, thinking everything you own is going to be taken away and your going to have a warrant, you dont think straight.. Let alone have any time to think at all! Everything happened so quick! She was trying to take care her of business.

I just received a call from "Julie Smith" as well.  When I called "her" back, I was referred to a "supervisor" who insisted on asking for my personal information and bank account information before they seize my assets.  I told him I knew it was a scam abroad, I told the man with accent to remove my number from his call list, and if the calls continued I would report it to the police and to whatever Organized Crime Unit i deemed necessary.  He hung up on me.  We'll see if I get a call back.

Same call from Fake Julie Smith with IRS with an important matter, needing a callback of course.  Recording-Not a live person.  Wish we could attach the recordings!  This individual (in recording) was well spoken, but almost robotic, and I couldn't pick up a sign of accent.  It was a robocall though.

I got a call from the 202-506-8601 this morning.. I call it back after the robot message of  it being the IRS... I firs looked it up on line and saw scammers....I called the puke back and asked why are you calling my phone,  he replyed who is this ?, I said I am not giving you my name.. What do you want?  He asked me what my number was? I said Im not  giving you my number.. He looked it up and said my husbands name... I said, " I work for the IRS so who are you?   He said," give me you badge number.? I said ," Im not giving you my badge number...You are a lier, and you dont work for the IRS, because we don't call people over the phone... You are a scammer...  HE then said, YOU ARE A TWO BIT F' KN [***] " and hung up on me .

Received the same call from "Julie". Since the IRS does not initialize first contact by phone it is an obvious scam. These people should be put away for a long time.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general).

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). I received a very poor quality message from June (I thought) Smith just now.  I had to listen to it twice to understand the phone number.  It wasn't anywhere near as threatening as some have reported, but I was told to call the IRS back "before they take action."

i just received the same call and spoke with Ray Miller.  He was vague, uncooperative and used words like "stealing", "running away with money", etc., which alerted me that this was quite unusual, having had significant contact with the IRS regarding my business, employment taxes, etc.  I will report this immediately to Dept. of Justice.

I also received a call from that IRS SCAM - 202-506-8601.  Julie Smith automated message.  Then spoke to someone named "Robert Costin."  Claimed I owed back taxes, and was going to be arrested etc.  

Any possibility of arresting these guys???  

I just received the same call today.  The IRS does not work this way.  You would always receive a notice in the mail giving you the opportunity to investigate and explain any potential unpaid tax.  This is a scam and should be reported!

Received an automated message about IRS actions against me, this morning.  Didn't call back.  
Thank goodness for the internet to warn us of scams like this.  Why can't these scammers be prosecuted before they defraud some innocent Seniors.

Most of these calls are originating from India. Spoofed phone numbers are being used as well.
