Heavy foreign accent, recording, multiple calls a day for the last two days. He says his name is officer mike cooper with the IRS and I or my attorney needs to call back right away to avoid legal "altercation" yes he says altercation and not legal action.  What an idiot.

A male with a heavy indian accent claiming to be calling from the IRS has been leaving messages and wanting talk to me numerous times.  I'm trying to actually talk to him so that I can sell all of my worldly possessions and give all my money to the India Revenue Service. Yeah right!  The real IRS does not call to collect money.  The real IRS always send a certified letter informing you of an audit before any legal action is taken.  You have around 90 day to appeal and no fees or monies are exchanged.  Sorry caller, but I already dealt with the real IRS before.  Move onto another scam please.  BTW, your friend from Windows tech support already called me last month.

This needs to be stopped. If our government can know all of our information they should be able to find this person and tack actions to keep them from making treats to people.

I keep receiving weird messages from an Indian man with heavy accent and I blocked his number but he keeps leaving voice mails.  He says he's an officer and calling from the IRS.  He doesn't make sense.  He calls 3 times a day or more.

    • Caller: says he's from IRS

I have received 4 calls from this number.  The first time, there was a voicemail asking for my mother's name, saying he was officer John McClain with the IRS.  When he called again, I told him that I have received 4 calls and that he had the wrong number.  He asked me for my name, and when I wouldn't give it to him, he asked why.  I then told him that I would report him, he told me, "F*** yourself, m*****f*****."

I received a call from this number at 7:30 a.m. What type of business calls you that early in the morning? He said he's an officer and needs to speak with me about my taxes! Yeah right!! I'm going to call the IRS and find out how he got my info and give them this number.

Received this call from a person with a thick accent claiming to be from the IRS and I owe money on my taxes. Saying his name is Frank Johnson? Thompson? Can't tell his accent makes it hard to understand. He called the previous day using a (202) 506-9720 number. I had already blocked this number using PhoneTray, so he used the (202) 506-9720 number. I will block this number and see what number he will use tomorrow.

Plan to report this number a the other number to the FTC. Hope they catch this guy. They won't look too kindly on people impersonating an IRS agent!

I just received a call from  202-506-9524. Not very intelligent people are they?
Suspecting fraud I googled the number and ended up on this site.
The message they left was telling me to get an attorney and then they ended the message by saying "take care" . Haha, would the IRS tell you that?

I got a call from an "unknown name" at 202-506-9524. It was a heavily-accented female voice saying she was some officer with the IRS and that I needed to call someone, which I didn't do because I'd heard of this scam, and the IRS doesn't call on the phone anyway. Her voice was very metered with each word being very carefully delivered. The audio quality was rather poor making it hard to listen to.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
    Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
    1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

    2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

    3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf).
