Called and told me that I am under criminal investigation. And I have to pay $3000

I received a call from this number, and I called them back since it said IRS. The would be IRS agent "Daniel Stewart, agent # 25173) told me I owed IRS $ 2960, over 6 years, and I I didn't pay them right away I would be arrested by the county sheriff, and so on.  He sounded very convincing, but what he didn't know was that the same guy called my house few months ago, and asked for a lady with spanish name for the problems.  I asked him if I can called him back in 2 hours, and he agreed.  I went to google the number, and I found out about that scam.  Thanks for everybody who posted their encounters with those thieves.

this is a scam in the name of IRS. Looks like an Indian Call center.

Fake IRS scam.

On my answering machine: "...hotline (202) 509-0711.  The issue is very sensitive so before IRS takes any legal action against your name call IRS as soon as possible."

Total scam.  First, the IRS doesn't initiate legal action against you by phone.  Second, if they don't know your name when they "notify" you it is totally suspicious.  

Hang-up/ignore.

"Officer Daniel Stewart" called my father on 8/18/2014 asking that I call back immediately regarding a matter that required urgent attention.  I called and he stated that I was under investigation for tax fraud/evasion and that I would be receiving something in the mail within 3 days that would require immediate attention.  Haven't received anything in the mail yet but the entire scenario smelled fishy right from the beginning.

received urgent call from IRS criminal investigation division from Officer Daniel Stuart badge #25173; phone number240-580-1922. told that i was under criminal investigation. wouldn't provide detail except to ask if i had in the last 10 years received money from outside the US or sent money out of US. said the country was Hungary. I would NOT give him any info and requested to be mailed a copy of the criminal investigation file. he said to expect it within 10 business days. We'll see if it ever shows up. This guy has apparently been scamming people under the guise of IRS criminal investigation for a couple of years. Beware! The only reason I found out that this was a scam is because my CPA did some investigating.

I received a call with from a man who identified himself as Daniel Stuart Identification number 25173 and that he was an IRS agent.  The call came in on April 15th, Tax Day...   He stated that I was under criminal investigation and that I was going to owe money.  I asked for what tax year.  He stated that it was for this tax year.  I stated that the IRS is similar to all other government organizations in that it is grossly inefficient and that a phone call on April 15th regarding taxes that are not due until April 15th next year is not only unlikely but also impossible due to tax law.  This individual discussed this with me and although I was brash, I found him very convincing in general.  I think this type of scam is a serious issue and these types of people should be pursued by law enforcement in a much more active manner.  I suppose we need a law enforcement which does not suffer from the same inefficiency and misplaced efforts as the IRS.  I'm a business owner and savvy businessman and even I decided to send a letter to the IRS to verify the identity of this individual.  After all, he provided a badge number.  The IRS took weeks to respond with only stated that the office I sent the e-mail to does not do  provide this service.  Funny thing is, the e-mail address I used was specifically for the purpose of this type of request.

I recieved a call via phone message from number 202-795-2498.  Called back, talked to a would be Daniel Stuart, Badge #25173.  It appears that since I was not working and haven't been for over 6 months, the call was ended quickly.  It is a scam.  They had also left the same message as others, which was a recording that I needed to call immediately or legal action would be taken.

Claimed call was from Publishers Clearing House. It was not. This is a scam.!!!
