They are fishing for information!!!! Be weary of those phone calls, it is a scam that is rising fast due to the toilet bowl economy.

Called me from a job I applied for on craigslist...said is was Career Network and would take about 45 minutes to complete the application...not sure if it's a scam or not but by googling the company..it seems sketchy

Called the number back.  I spoke with a man who may I add was not very nice, he informed me it was to check references for a job application.  I asked what the job was and he said he could not tell me until I he had information.  I declined.

They left me a message stating that I had applied for a job within the last week and they needed to speak with me, they also said that the co I applied with will remain confidential unless they decide to pursue the interview process, please call us back as soon as possible- Jessica was the caller's name. After googling the number 202-591-2221, I found out the name of the co, I googled the co and checked them on the BBB (Better Business Bureau)... see for yourself, don't give them your info! They called me a couple of times. They ask to verify your info for a job. Don't, this is a scam. They call them them selves Career Network. I suggest not filling out apps for company like this. Don't put your social security number on this job app's unless it's a major company you know. There is a bunch scams like this on the net.  There just trying to get your info.

Watch out for apple staffing careers,Applicant Source Careers they are affiliated with career network. They seem to be the same company with different names. Don't bother applying (for jobs)with these companies. They are scams.

rec'd call too - no message

First got a call from 202-591-2220 and two days later from 2221. They want to "verify" information. Yeah, whatever...I applied for a job on Craig's List and it had me go to this website, but I honestly can't remember if I gave my social security # or not. God, let's hope I didn't. Anyway, I get spam emails from them as well.

I've received two calls from this phone number and before returning the call I researched the number and arrived at this site which I am very thankful for the information as it is obviously a scam thank you

i called back and told the guy to remove my number from their system, and if they called back again i would report them to the indiana attorney general. he removed it right away.

It's a fishing call.

It's a scam. I called the company I was applying for a job. They do not know them. Career Network decieve you into thinking the employer is interested in you and seeking to verify your resume. They are lying!!! I don't know what they do with the information you give them but if they seek it under false pretences it can't be for any good reason can it? We need people like them in this crisis like we need a hole in the head!

I got a call from 939-566-3661. I didn't answer and they left an automated voicemail. In the voicemail they told me that I was being sued by the IRS and to call 202-591-2221 for more information. I looked up both numbers and the one they called from does not exist. This is a SCAM! People are trying to steal your personal Information!

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:

1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances - amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://m.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-centr ... mmission-320427). I got a call from 202 591 2221 Today saying that  this was a law suit, that they had done an audit from the year of 2008 through 2012 and that I owed the Goverment in the amount of $1595.00. all we owned would be taken if we didnt pay this amount. What do youll think is a scam or real?

Peggy, it most certainly is a SCAM! They have called me twice now. . 2 different #'s once from the # you gave and then another. Report it to your local authorities!!

Said the IRS was suing me.
