- Scam me NOT| 4 repliesLeaves half of a message saying that they will send something to the county courthouse unless you call them back at 202-602-1336. When I called , no answer or hangs up after one ring which is typicle of a scammer. Did a reverse number look up and found the owner of the number is Global NAPS South Inc. in Maryland.
- Flo| 1 replyThis 202-602-1336 number called and left an urgent automated message for a return call to a different number. When I called the other number (I wish I would have kept it) they said that the IRS was going to sue me for taxes owed for a 6 year audit. When the guy read off the years, he listed 5 years that he said the taxes were for not 6!! He said they they were going to take my house and car and was going to freeze all of my accounts for what was due immediately....$4,729.00. When I told him I didn't believe this was legit, he hung up on me!
When you do get an audit from the IRS, they mail you letters, they will never call you!
This is a TOTAL SCAM!!!- Caller: 202-602-1336 from Washington, DC (per caller id)
- Alfalfa replies to FloThese are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.
If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.
The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.
By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.
Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.
They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.
Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.
The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.
If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.
http://money.cnn.com/2015/01/22/pf/taxes/irs-tax-scams/ - YeahISaidIt| 1 replyI just got one of these calls too... says it's the IRS going to file a lawsuit in county court in "your name" if you don't call them back. Don't call them back and definitely don't answer this 202 call. What a shame that our world has come to this, you can barely answer the phone anymore. So much for Do Not Call lists anymore. Wish there was another way. Reporting it to FTC really feels like it doesn't do any good.

- DebbieReceived several half-messages similar to above comments, regarding sending something to a local court house. I tried returning the call once with no success. Now I am receiving back-to-back calls from this number. Most annoying, but at least it is a change from the flood of calls from scammers who have "diagnosed my computer" from afar.

- jimgot a message from this number asking for a person that I don't know saying he is with Kentucky services and has received 4 allegations against this person and will come for them at their home or work. Called the number back and got a real person who said that the person they called for had given my phone number and last name. They claim they are looking for her and wanted me to find her for them. I told them I was not who they thought I was and that I do not know this person. The person then said he would remove my number from the list and apologized. Turned this over to local law enforcement.
