these people are saying they are from the US board of education and harass my husband about every 6mos with different numbers saying we owe them money for some books complete scam

This is a scam.  If they threaten you with court or being arrested, it is not true.  Do not give any personal information or money.  Have them send a letter to you in writing, BUT do not provide your address.  If they are legitimate, they will already have that information.

The recorded message said it was the IRS and they were filing a law suit against me and I must call immediately.  How do we stop these calls?

I also just received a call from this number with a similar threat of IRS court action. I am reporting it to my local P.D. as well.

I just received a call from 719-201-7256 saying to call the above number bc IRS is filing lawsuit against me. Recording said it was final notice yet I've never been notified before. I'm not calling back but it is unnerving.

Same here.  Number on caller id was 932-566-3671 and they said they were the IRS and were going to sue me.

I just received a call from this number and they freaked me out and eventually hung up on me since I asked them specifically what was incorrect. They indicated they were from the IRS and have a warrant for my arrest.

They called my wifes phone with a pre recorded message saying they were going to sue her. I have a CPA do our taxes for the last 20 years,received no notifications of any issues. My CPA contacted the number,asked questions,they hung up. I contacted the number 12 times since 9 this morning,no call back. I filed a complaint on the IRS website reporting the phone number.Scammers

i got a call saying their from the irs that they have this is the last warning, and that they are gonna bring me to court and what not. from 719-201-7256 if they call you its a scam

Same here.  Call from 714 201 8296 with same message.

These people have been calling me for about 3 weeks now. The first time, I called back. The moron asked me for my information, and I said, you have caller ID, you don't have my information? Now I am getting recorded calls, from Puerto Rico, telling me to call a 202 number., IRS is suing me. Seems like the IRS would not be calling from Puerto Rico, huh? I would LOL, but this crap is wearing thin.....

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). I received the same IRS message so I called back and told them I was recording the conversation. I gave them a bogus # and they said they had my file. I then stated I have a tracer on this call and the guy immediately put me on hold and never came back! Some idiot with a foreign accent!

Have gotten several call at 5:00 AM pst re: feds are coming after us

I received the same IRS message which is completely BS.  The last time they tried calling me, they were phishing for information and everyone had a deep indian accent.  This is completely BS.  

I received this same IRS lawsuit message. Sounded like they were in a restaurant kitchen. Deep Indian accent.
