Got a call from this number from a female (with a possible hispanic accent) claiming to be Shirley Cruz from the Treasury Department IRS Investigations Unit.  She claimed that there were "serious charrges" against my name (which she never stated on the call) and that I needed to contact her immediately.  I know this is a scam call.  She is calling from an off the shelf pre-paid cell phone with no plan.  The IRS does not contact customers/taxpayers out of the blue from non-government cell phones.  The IRS usually sends certified mail to the person(s) address, the IRS typically does not initiate a phone call.  I see this Shirley Cruz has used several other numbers to call from including a Magic Jack phone number.  She delivers the same message every time.  Apparently from the other reports she wants the "victim" to send/wire her large amounts of money immediately.

Fraud and certainly a scam call - purportedly a shakedown from the IRS - calling from a burner phone

I received a call Today from this lady Sheryl Cruz stating that I should call the 202-657-4275 . Accent and when I called the number later Today she said only her name on the answer machine. Of course she did not say IRS. Thank you for posting this scams... I will pass it along with my friends so they are aware of this phone calls.

Received the same call.  Google and saw your note.   As I was just finished, she called back. I listened to her intro, confirmed my name and proceed to warn her that the call was being recorded. She was so rude....she did not even say good by...Thanks.

Just got the same call. I challenged officer Cruz by asking why I haven't received any hard info via mail/post. She got frustrated and said "fine, ill just send your file over and the cops will be at your door within 72hrs to arrest you" HAHAHHAHA someone send her to second city for some acting lessons.

She is leaving me voice messages but guess what I work for the government but on a state level working with taxpayers. This is a scam.

A lady is calling me claiming she is the IRS criminal investigation unit she need to collect a payment from me due to back taxes.

Its a scam.  The IRS does not communicate by phone or email.  All communication from the IRS comes through the US post office.

Indeed, I got a message from this same phone number. I am in Oregon, and if you get a call, and report it here, let us know what state you're in. I am not a lawyer, but I imagine if anybody is actually investigating this, that information might help. Don't give your address or city-- just the state.

Same as above. PA.  Even came up as Washington, DC on caller id. Thank heavens for voice mail. I am on a don't call list so wondering how this happens.  So irritating they are bothering people. Probably not even calling from US.

Thank you for this post. The call my elderly mother received from this "Shirley Cruz" caused her some confusion, just the sort of thing these scammers want. I have drilled my mother NEVER to give any information over the phone. It infuriates me how these rip-off artists preys on the elderly!!

Total scam.  Originates in either India or Pakistan.   Block and ignore.   DO NOT RETURN THE CALL!

IRS does not initiate contacts by phone.  US mail only.   IRS does not file lawsuits.   Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter.  But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters.  90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively.  IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes.  IRS has no powers of arrest.    If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job.  IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of  money.  IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone.   IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case.  No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments.  Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but  usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement.    All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals.  All  contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.

I am from New Jersey and this is the fourth call I have received in the last 3 weeks. The first 3 came from 3 different people  ( Jason, Donny, and Janet) representing a "firm" in California and they wanted to "help" me concerning a 3rd party serious allegation before it goes to the "county court". One  call went to V.M., the other 2 were taken by my boyfriend who wrote down all the details.  I considered those scam calls; that number was 626-921-6429 .Then I got a call from 202-657-4275 and a woman with an Hispanic accent said she was Officer Shirley Cruz - left me a V.M. message saying my name had come up on a notice concerning a criminal investigation by the IRS. I tried calling the number back in the evening when I retrieved the message, but I could tell it wasn't a professional business- there was no name, or hours given, just her name with no title. .

I was going to visit the local IRS office in my area tomorrow to find out first, if I actually had done something wrong to be investigated, then I was going to tell them about what happened, and give them the information if they want to pursue it.

I am glad I found this website- I am amazed that so many people have received the 202 call.

Has anyone received any calls from California from a "fake " company like I did?

Common scam.  They are calling anyone and everyone they can.  Just fishing for victims.  Ignore their calls and block them.  See my entry. IRS does NOT initiate contacts by phone.   Nor does it file lawsuits.
