Hangup call from a strange number.  Did not answer.  No message left.

Caller with a very heavy Nigerian accent claimed to be from the US Treasury department and informed me that I had been selected at random to receive a grant of $8,400.00. Why? Because I had no criminal record and had paid all my taxes on time over the last year. You can imagine my joy and surprise! The caveat is that this lovely person needed either my bank account info or my credit/debit card number (even an expired card would work) so they could transfer me the money. When I told her that the US Treasury department most certainly has my name and address on file (from those taxes I've been paying) and that they could just mail me a check she hung up. I was so very disappointed that the call ended so abruptly. I could have used that money. I guess all the bad weather in D.C. caused the line to drop. Oh well, maybe she'll call back.

Same as Darringdo did below.  Foreign speaker saying with feds and trying to give money.  Wnen I said I didn't think they were real, they immediately hung-up on me.

First call was earlier this afternoon and was an individual claiming to be from the "United States Government Grants Department". I hung up. Just now they called again. I did not answer.

Received a call from this number, but did not pick up since I didn't recognize it.  A message was not left.

Two calls this morning from a woman with a very thick Middle Eastern accent saying she was calling from "the federal tax department in Washington, DC" who hung up promptly when I said that wasn't real.

Same thing happened.  I told them I would rather the Government keep the money and put it to good use.  He angrily hung up.

I told them no bank account or card, they said they could do western union and wanted me to verify my name, which when they answered they asked for "the owner of this number"... Ha.  They hung up when I said that they should have my number on file.

Same thing as all the other posters! I didn't answer them the first three times they called, the 4th I did (cuz who knows, maybe it really is an important call? Though I should've stuck by my 'no message, don't reply rule') and I hung up after blah blah blah US Treasury Department " ... How are you today?" I hope they're caught soon. :/

we've  traced  back  most  of  these  numbers  to  offshore  foreign    call centers mostly  in   INDIA /  THAILAND / AFRICA  /  JAMAICA  ETC....

here's a  few  other  numbers  posted  from  the   same  area  code  offering a  wide  variety  of  scams  /  fake  emails and  scams  after  posting  something  on   craigslist   (  old  scam  )  ...... collecting  for  non  existant  "  payday  loans "....free  money / scam  giveaways /  calling  on  behalf  of  a  humane  society..... $1,000's  in  free  gov't  money.........  etc  etc.....stories  change  out  all the  time......and  the  usual  nonsense!!!

**   mysteriously  call to  claim  they  have  several  thousand  of  dollars  to  send  you / give ....just  provide  your  bank  account and  credit  card   right  away   etc etc.........scam scam

Would not stop calling me! I finally answered and asked them to take me off their call list! A creepy Middle Eastern said no no no
