- ANNOYED YET AGAIN| 2 repliesMy husband called me at work to let me know we rec'd an automated call from this # saying we're being sued by the IRS. He gave me the # and I called it from my job. An east-Indian man answered 'Internal Revenue Service', I asked him who did I call and he said, angrily, 'IRS'. I then asked him what the acronym stands for but he didn't understand until I said what does IRS stand for. He repeated, again angrily, Internal Revenue Service. I asked, 'so you work for the government?' and he hung up on me, imagine that! The IRS audits people, they don't sue...this is BS and annoying as hell!

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.
The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.
By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.
Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.
They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.
Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.
The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.
If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.
http://money.cnn.com/2015/01/22/pf/taxes/irs-tax-scams/ - Amanda StuartSame experience with Indian man saying he was with the IRS.
- Christopher CookGot the same message. Ha! I called from a work phone and asked many questions and gave no information about myself. Man on phone started speaking in an unrecognizable language. I told him that was rude and he called me an [***]. LOL
- Caller: "IRS"
- LouiseSame old, same old----"-this is the IRS and we are filing suit against you". Call this number:202-684-6530.
Would like to call them back and inform them where they will be incarcerated if we ever catch them! - MeTooSame experience here. The IRS is filing suit against me, according to Robo Woman. Call "department number" 202-684-6530. The number can be traced to a landline in Washington DC. I guess that will convince some people to bite. Enough of this nonsense! Deputy Dog needs to go sic 'em!
- JimHad two calls so far from a robo voice from a "PRIVATE NUMBER" as described. Was close to gramatically correct, but obviously NOT the IRS. I've had a couple experiences with them before. They always write a letter, not a cold call and if they did call, it wouldn't be to tell you to call them. Sad because people probably fall for this "call the department number", really? I started to call, but figured I'd save myself the aggrvation.
- Caller: IRS - Supposedly
- NOT SCAMMEDSame thing here - rcvd call from OUT OF AREA - no number listed - picked up and there was a recording Stating it was the IRS and a FINAL NOTICE - filing lawsuit - call back at 202-684-6530

I am from OKC, and I received a phone call on my cell phone from an UNKNOWN caller, a automated voicemail was left. The voicemail said that a lawsuit was filed against me and to call 202-684-6530 back to address the matter immediately. I called it back but not from my cell phone, from my work line and a gentlemen answered the phone with very broken English. I had him repeat who he said he was with "I am with the Internal Revenue Service", I said BS and hung up. Don't fall for this people, they are not even in this country, if you give them your information, you are going to regret it........- Caller: SCAMMER PRETENDING TO BE IRS
- Pinup GirlSame crap as everyone else has reported: "Unknown Caller" automated message says you are being sued by the IRS, call 202-684-6530. I immediately knew it was BS, called it and some foreign guy named "Mike" who could barely speak English said I was being sued by the IRS, never asking my name. I immediately went off on him and told him it was BS.

- Kevin replies to phucawf scammersUnfortunately there are enough people who do send them money that they're making (last I heard) billions from this scam.
- EliJust also June 1 received a call, I called back from a dead internet #. Told them my home # (false) after 2 mins, they came back on the line and said -- you owe us $1980, we have a lien on your estate and froze your bank accounts. Funny, they had no idea who I was .. told me to clear this, I needed to go to Rite Aid - and get a money gram now, he asked me how long, I said like 10 minutes (there is no RiteAid near by) .. he said .. do NOT hang up the phone, keep talking to me and go get the money, I said -- well is that not illegal - you know driving and talking? He said no no .. it is not ... illegal - if you do not listen in your ear ... then he said -- get me the money and I will lift the bank account freeze and release your estate ... again . he had no idea who I was. my phone number was false and no name ... these guys are classics!
