Now they tried to call me about the same thing using a different number. 239-719-1501. The person said his name was Shawn something. Don't fall for it. It's a SCAM. They're just trying to cheat your money again.
- Sue| 7 repliesJust received recorded message from a cell phone number 703-427-5200 telling us to call 202-738-4666. Message is a female voice that says they have been trying to reach us and that this is officially final notice from the IRS. The message says the Internal Revenue Service ( IRS ) is filing lawsuit against us and to call this number to obtain information about this case file. We don't have any issues with the IRS, so suspect it is scam.
- Caller: IRS??????

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. - Susan MI just received a call (Nov 25, 2014 at 9:39am Eastern time) on my cell phone from phone number 721-432-5627. The message that was left was a recorded female voice saying the IRS was going to file a lawsuit against me and to call 202-738-4666 immediately. I tried calling but the phone rang 15 times and disconnected. This is obviously a SCAM!
- Caller: ?????
- LaurieStated I needed to call 202-738-4666 to get information about a lawsuit being filed against me by the IRS. I called because my 21 year old son is in communication regarding error on a tax return from 2010. Got no answer. I do believe it is a scam.
- KonstantinAlso received a robotic call saying "IRS is filing a suit against me, I should call this number". Funny. They probably started new SCAM campaign this morning, so their call center must be overloaded right now with people desperately trying to find out about this "lawsuit".
- JeannieI received a call from 721-432-5607, female voice recording stating they having been trying to reach me, they are the IRS and filing suit and to call this number 202-738-4666. It is definitely a SCAM. The IRS will always notify you in writing first. Do not be fooled and send these people money. They almost got my sister for 4,000.00!! Be careful out there people, there are these types of scams every where. Always check with the IRS directly and never give out credit card or bank information over the phone to anyone before you are certain you know who you are dealing with.

- AlReceived a call from 727-432-5617 at 11:30am EST on November 25th 2014. Exact same thing as all the others posting about this from the last 24 hours. Full verbatim transcript: "Hello. We have been trying to reach you. This call is officially a final notice from IRS - Internal Revenue Services. The reason of this call is to inform you that IRS is filing lawsuit against you. To get more information about this case file, please call immediately on our Department number 202-738-4666. I repeat 202-738-4666. Thank you." Figured it was a scam immediately, even though the execution was somewhat convincing. Nice attempt, now blocked.
- Caller: 727-432-5617
- John O'LearyI just got a voice mail, with a message saying it's my final notice before IRS files a law suit against me! I guess IRS is so strapped for funds (owing, no doubt, to my delinquent taxes) that they can't afford to send me a letter first. :-)
- Caller: "IRS"
- RobertReceived a call from 720-402-5637 claiming to be from the IRS on Nov. 25, 2014 at 10:59 am EST. Caller ID shows "Wireless Caller". I searched online and found the number to be associated with Verizon Wireless Mobile in Denver, CO. Consistent with the reports above; the recording of a woman's voice stating the following: "Hello. Thank you." PLEASE, DO NOT BE FOOLED OR ALARMED BY THIS CALL.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.
2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back direction (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)
3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf).
