Urgent message left saying to call back and do not ignore this call as there has been legal action taken against us! We now owe some big $$$ to the Irs. It actually sounded exactly like the same Indian/foreign lady that claimed she was from Microsoft a couple of weeks ago!! Seriously.

Confirmed fraud attempt (IRS script, using real IRS voicemail recording). This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
    Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
    1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

    2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

    3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). You can use the following template for your letter (more powerful!) or email:

Don't be deceived by the answering machine that sounds like the official IRS phone number. These are the same stupid East Indian camel jocks who barely speak English and are out to scam your money..

Report this to magic jack as a fraud number and hopefully they'll deactivate it..

He started with weird accent, saying he is from IRS. I put him on hold. Picked the line 15 seconds later. Asked, who is this? The guy says Muhammad (or may be Ahmad, difficult accent). I ask, "WHO"? He tries to adjust his accent and then says Officer Forrester (or Foster). Obviously a fraud. How can the same guy have a Muslim and Christian name. I hung up.

The man had an Indian or Pakistani accent and stated that his name was Tony Forrerster, from the IRS Fraud Department, and that he just received a writ to start legal action agaist me for tax fraud.  He wanted me call him back at 202-747-0875 to prevent further penalties.  This is a SCAM!  Do NOT fall for it.  If the IRS wanted to take legal action, you will get an official letter, not a phone call.

Please ignore these individuals who are pretending to be IRS Agents.  They left three messages on our voicemail stating that we were being investigated for tax invasion and tax fraud.  They sounded very believable.  We called the 202 number and it stated they were the IRS.  They stated that agent such and such had our case and left for the day but to call back.  We gave them our phone number and our name.  We normally do not fall for these type of scams but were amending our taxes for last year and already resolved some discrepancies for 2012 tax year return so thought this could be somewhat credible.  Again, ignore these scam artists!  Take it from us.

My message machine said his name was Mike Davis and to call him back at 202-747-0875.  We have a legal disposition and should call before we get arrested.  It was very hard to understand.  He had an indian accent.  I called back but you can not leave a message.  I started to get a little worried...now I know I am not the only one in this call scam.

Caller would not give his name or Internal Revenue Service ID number as they are required to do. Said I was committing tax fraud from 2008 to 2012 (not true) and I was to be arrested and all property and bank accounts frozen or lien filed. Also stated that arresting officer had permission to shoot me in the left leg. Calling our local law enforcement.

They can't be stopped.  They are hard core scammer/ extortionists located in India.  You can protect yourself with a call blocker and do not pick up on calls you do not recognize.

Got the same message as everyone else.  I called them back after reading the previous posts.  We actually got the same message from a different number about a month ago - so I knew to look into it first.  This one is much more convincing with the actual IRS answering machine asking to press 1 for English and 2 for Spanish.  It got picked up from the same middle east person.  After he went through his schpeel - I told him that I knew this was a scam situation and I was notifying the FBI, IRS and the local authorities.  His reply was  "Are you kidding me????  Get a life!!!!!" and hung up on me.  I'm thinking that's really not IRS phone procedure!!!!

I get some of this type of call from time to time.  I talk with them and ask them where they think they are going after their death and what do they suppose will happen to their families after they go to hell.  Usually they hang up right away.  If they linger explain to them that extorting property from innocent people is considered by their religion to be cause for their immediate suicide.  Tell them they are embarrassing themselves, their family and their country.  It won't stop the calls but it will make them hang up and you will feel much better.  I really hate this kind of crap.

I received a call from this number about 30 minutes ago.
The lady, Sarah Lopez said that I owed $3981 to the IRS.
When I told her that it was bogus, she said the police would be on my doorstep in 30 minutes.

Call her back in 30 minutes and ask where the police are.  But do report the call to the link in the RexIRS post earlier in the thread.

It's interesting that several of us have received this call and we all owe $3981 between 2008-2012

Scammers.  I almost fell for it, but when they wouldn't give me their ID number or send me the paperwork showing how I owe this money, I was more than suspicious.

I called back and got the same guy.  he didn;t like that I said I spoke to the IRS  and they didn't have this number on file that i called.
