- RexIRSConfirmed fraud attempt (IRS script). This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm
As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.
2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)
3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). You can use the following template for your letter (more powerful!) or email:
https://800notes.com/forum/ta-a9526ebadc65cf9 ... 558497927242748 - ZAReceived two phone messages that the IRS is trying to contact me to file a lawsuit against me.
- BGHave had 2 of these calls in the last few months. It is sad to think of the people that fall for this and are swindled out of their hard earned money.
- Caller: IRS scammer
- CET| 2 repliesReceived the IRS call this morning. The call back number is 202/747-2140. Caller ID shows the number as 630/894-0625. This number seems to be associated with an alleged computer virus service call scam. It is a shame some people don't understand the IRS would never do this by phone, you would be receiving letters, probably by certified mail.
- JNMReceived call from 1-607-767-0115 at 10AM 10/31/14 informing me (incorrectly) that the IRS had been trying to reach
me and is filing a lawsuit against me. The voice message said I should call 202-747-2140 in order to resolve this.
Fortunately a little bit of research reveals that this is a scam so, of course, I will not be calling this number. - George MiadisYup! Just another scam! IRS will never call and leave a voicemail with a robot voice.
LOL!!! The number that called me was "local" 817-649-9068 and then the voicemail said to call 202-747-2140.- Caller: N/A

- Hunting Jaguar replies to KT| 1 replyI got the message from 607-324-9846, "final IRS notice....call back at 202-747-2140). I will call back and while sitting in traffic I will do what I like to do with all the unsolicited calls. HAVE FUN, PLAY ALONG with them as long as possible and waste their time. HAVE SOME FUN. 1) one time I got called about my computer errors, so I acted like a senior citizen and had them walk me over the phone of numerous steps to show me some errors with my computer. As a senior citizen they had to repeat instructions again and again, plus trace back to previous steps...I did this for 30+ minutes while I was in traffic. 2) I got a call from home security "we are in your area and would like to install....", I played along and gave them my address which was actually the address to the police station. ha ha
- unknown for safety| 2 repliesI just got a voice mail about IRS auditing and filing a law suit against me and left me to call 202 747 2140, should of doing a research about this # before calling but after talking to them I got scared at first due to the legal actions and they told me I have an option to pay off or file legal at my local court house. So I said I can go ahead and take care of this matter but since this is the first time I heard about it from IRS, I asked them should IRS be sending writing notices and send it via postal mail and they did not answer that and keep looping around the legal actions so finally I got into a bit panic and said I will pay, then they told me to give them my cell phone # and that the local authority will call me and they did call with a 202 241 7039 and told me that I need to go to the bank and get cash then get a government voucher to send in the payment. I told them that I am at work and I cannot go to the bank and get cash now and that right there puzzled me. IRS wanted cash and that is not right. They are on the phone rushing me to pay, something is wrong here....

- CWG40They are hard core Indian or Pakistani scammer/extortionists. They want your money. Period. Ignore them and block their calls.
- CWG40 replies to unknown for safety| 1 replyRead the other messages. This is a total scam. DO NOT WIRE THEM ANY MONEY!!
I am an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (inactive) please read this:
Total scam run out of India. First off, the IRS does not file lawsuits. If there is a need for court action, the IRS makes a request to the DOJ which makes the final decision whether or not to go to court-- usually to enforce a collection action of some kind or another. See: http://www.irs.gov/irm/part5/irm_05-017-004.html
But this only happens after a long period of administrative negotiations with the taxpayer. Before any court case would happen, the taxpayer would be well aware of it. IRS is never going to cold-call you and tell you that a case is being filed against you out of the clear blue sky.
IRS has absolutely no authority over local police. IRS does not make arrests, the IRS is a tax collection agency. Local police and law enforcement are NEVER involved in tax disputes. If law enforcement presence is needed US marshal are available.
Secondly, over 90 percent of all tax disputes are settled administratively during an appeals process.
This is just a scam where somebody cold-calls, pretends to be IRS and tries to scare you into paying money to somebody by Green dot money pak which is untraceable.
Ignore the call and do not return it. Block the number.

I felt a bit shaky and being annoyed and violated since I already know my home phone # and cell phone # and my home address. My neighbor suggested me to call the local police and report it.
