Fake call from IRS, saying i owe money

Fake call from IRS stating there is a legal petition against my name.  

India accent with a name of Alex Marshall. Wanted to speak to my husband regarding an urgent matter.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). When I returned the call, I was informed that I was being sued by the IRS for tax fraud and tax evasion; that they had found a miscalculation in my taxes years 2008-2012 and that I intentionally tried to defraud the IRS by "theft and deception." He informed me that I would be visited by an official from the Sherriff's department within 1 hour of terminating this phone call and that they would bring a warrant for my arrest. While on the phone with them, I google the number and found it was a scam. Thank God for the Internet!

Same as above posts, IRS scam, couldn't understand the guy had to listen to recording three times to get phone number.  Called it and Verizon came on said it was a bad number.

Call from 202-747-2171 a person saying that they are from the IRS, they wont give badge number and keep calling saying we owe money!

Same thing got phone call from same number, Person spoke poor engish and I had difficulty understanding him over the back ground noise coming from his end of the phone. I asked him several times to repeat himself then I asked for someone else to speak to that spoke better English and he told me that I could put the phone down and not to be so rude. He hung up on me.

Tax Evasion Scam Call

They used a computer generated voice. They left the following message on my machine. Hello I am Alex Rodrigues. I am from the Tax Fraud Department of the Internal Revenue Services. I could be arrested as someone has filed a complaint against me. Call him back. This is a total scam.

Got a voice message yesterday that there was a law suit against us for IRS fraud and we would be arrested if we did not  return the call. I did call back  about 6:30 last night (I know this is a scam, just wanted to see what they would say) and # is disconnected. I'm sure they will just establish another number & keep trying to steal money if they can. We have had similar calls over the last 10 months, all different #'s from all over the country - very annoying. I've reported calls to the FTC & will keep doing so.

I just got a call that said I was going to be sued by the irs and did I have the name of an attorney that could meet me at the courthouse. I said try again. I always pay my taxes and do not ever owe anything. the number was 1 201 839 0574 it traced back to new jersey with global crossing. how stupid. also with foreign accent.
