This is a copy of the note I left for the other number they initially used to contact me (202-241-2794).  Follow up call used a different (unlisted) number.  Don't waste your time answering the call, nor should you return the call.  

"Received the same spiel as noted above from a "Lisa" claiming to be calling rom the Criminal Division of the Treasury Headquarters, etc.  Appears to be a taped message so I immediately blocked the number, knowing that it was a scam.  Called back using a different number (202-750-0280), with a slightly different, but essentially the same nonsense."

I got the same message recording voicemail. Trying to get to the bottom of it, but the call was very vague, they did not specify my name nor address.

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). I got call from this number 1-202-750-0280. This is scam trying to get your money. Do not  wast your time to hear thire story. They have strong accent too.

Got the fake call.  They challenged me that I was going to be sued tomorrow and when I told them to sue me they ended by saying I would be arrested in the morning.  I told themntobgo ahead and they repeated their threat and hung up

The voicemail I got is suspicious as well:
Hi this is officer Leeze Albrook for the crime investigation dept for the treasury inspector general for tax administration the call is regarding a case file that we have against your name and physical address is under federal investigation. So I want you to give us a call on an urgent basis to the hotline to my division 202.750.0280. I repeat, it's 202.750.0280 again this is officer Leeza Albrook for the treasury department, thank you."

This number is scam. I got phone from this one many times today.

I paid enough tax to government! Please nuke them to stop call.

This scammer called my number again! Caller ID "Washington DC". The guy said he is in "investigation division" in IRS based in Washington D.C.

Got a call and they said they were from Treasury Headdquarter in Washington DC and I have criminal charges against me, which I do not.  A scammer.  

Got two voicemails left today from them.  They've been busy.

I got a call with the caller using a "private" listed number.  Answered 202-750-0280 and the person wanted to talk with my husband.  Asked him (from India) to identify himself and the phone number.  I told him I know about this is a scam and to stop calling me.  Also that I have notified proper the authorities.

Thanks for your postings, got the call from 202-750-0280. It was a recording, Criminal division of the Treasury.
Government call on a Saturday morning?  Pre-recorded?   No notice in writing?.  Had to be a scam

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

I received several calls over the Labor Day weekend and also near the 4th of July weekend (though a different # 202-506-9971). Here's the basics:

* Person calls (usually has an East Indian or slightly Hispanic accent") identifying themselves as representing "a Federal office" - e.g. a woman who calls herself "Lisa Albert" with the Client Investigation Dept of the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration," I also got a call the same weekend from a man representing a generic Federal Agency

* Person says some version of: "there's a case against 'your name and address' (they don't identify me or my address) under federal investigation and to call back on an urgent basis.

* they leave #: 202-780-0280 or in previous case 202-506-9971

* I googled these #s and found a site where others had registered these #s linking to a # in Clovis, CA and identifying the calls as a fraud.If you call back they ask for personal information, like SSN and/or credit card to "pay the fine" in order resolve the claim.

* Clearly - there's a robo-call scam at work. Thanks to everyone for reporting this fraud.

just got a call from these guys. they are a scam. the message is funny though.

Received same scam calls numerous times (over a dozen times).
Filed complaint with FCC (Federal Communications Commission) and it seems to have stopped

Got the call from these losers. This one went by "Shawn Watson", with heavy Pakistani/Indian accent. LOL. When I repeatedly called back, same called from another line  (202-241-2796), and this one, I was able to trace it back to;

Got a pre-recorded call today from the number 202-750-0280.
I called them back without knowing this as a prank call and talked to 3 persons. One person in Hindi, another lady who might be Liza and an officer Baker. They were playing TEAM James bond :-)
They were saying whether have I done fund transfer and I should report that to IRIS. So that I should pay $1500 or otherwise going file a case against my social security# and local police is on the way to arrest.

Thank GOD that the call was disconnected and I did not share any information.
