This called my phone three times today at 9:15, 12:30 and 3:33.  I finally picked up the phone and it was an automated message saying they were from the IRS and had a criminal claim against me and not to disregard the call.  They left a number for me to call back but I didn't call.  The IRS always communicates through the mail, so I know this call was fake.

I received the same phone message. I called the number that appeared on my phone to see if they are from the IRS. The gentleman who responded said "Internal Revenue Service¨ (Indian accent-like a sales marketing call). They knew my address and when I asked them how do I know they are from IRS they said they did not have to justify that they are from the IRS and hung up.

This was a very strange automated machine with a computer-generated message that could barely be understood.  It called and left a message on my home phone answering machine.  The message was incomplete but sounded similar to what other people mention.

Same b.s. As the above , got the voice message a few times over the last few days, called the number but it says it is out of service. A friend had told me about a similar situation so I did a search and came across this thread.

I just received a call from an automated voice mail first stating that she was a Lawyer I and needed to call.   I thought it was a wrong number but when I called back.  The person, whom I could barely understand wanted to know if I had a Lawyer because the IRS had received complaints regarding my number.  Once I stated that the IRS wouldn't be calling me and that this was a bogus call and I would be contacting the Police. The person hung up.
    • Caller: Never gave a name only stated that they were a Lawyer in the automated call

I received the same call telling me I had a warrant for my arrest at my local sheriff department and that if I did not settle the debt of 2500 owed then they would arrest me today and will arrive within 45 min. They said criminal charges were filed with 4 counts: 1. violation of federal tax, 2. violation of internal revenue code, 3. willful fraud and deception, 4. willful fraudulent representation of a governmental office. They stated 1 million people were involved with the audit and that I was one of them. That the IRS will be filing with code 6331.H and stated that they have sent me 2 notices: one on the 17th of March and one on the 9th of May, neither of which I received obviously. I requested further information to be sent to me and I was hung up on. I called back and the same gentleman answered and said I was unwilling to work with resolving the debt and hung up again. I called back a 3rd time and he changed his voice acting as a supervisor, and then mid way went back to his Indian accent. Ha ha terrible. Needless to say I should be arrested in 45 min according to this Indian man. However I called my local police department to ensure that it was fraud... and guess what? I am not going to be arrested and I do not have a warrant for my arrest, and they have received several calls regarding this account, however there is nothing they can do. I requested for an incident report of course in case of any issue in the future I have my proof of attempt to protect myself and my identity and I would suggest to anyone to flag your name on all credit agencies and to contact the FBI as they will look into it further. That way your identity will be safe and secure. And whatever you do don't panic and pay money to people sitting on the phone making bank off of our hard earned money. These are the numbers they have called me on several times: 202-751-2499, 202-751-2542

Report the Calls to the real IRS here:
•report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
•You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov. Add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

I also received this call. 6 times in 2 days. Thought it was a scam, so went to IRS website. They will ALWAYS initiate contact through  mail. If you get mail, call the IRS # listed on their website or in your phonebook, or call your local office. DON'T call the # in a letter until you verify it! Also, as others have said, call IRS Inspector General at 1-800-366-4484.
