Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. - RexIRS replies to JumiorThis is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.
2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)
3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). The IRS was filing law suit against me and I should call 202-751-2541. I called them several times and was transferred to several different people, all having Indian/Pakistan accents. - pete from st. pete replies to MikeJust got the same call
trying to call them back just to f with them.
Waste as much of their time as possible just like any other phone scam.
I put the phone on speaker and just say umm umm or ok NEVER GIVE THESE ASS _OLES any info - DDGot the same message just now, an obviously automated generic woman's voice saying the IRS is suing me, final notice, etc, with instructions to call 202-751-2541. As it happens, my most recent tax return reflected completely different circumstances from previous years so a call from the IRS was all too plausible... But this just didn't smell right, and sure enough when I Googled the number a scam was revealed. NEVER return theses kind of calls without doing a web search first!
- Caller: claimed to be IRS
- yardbirdIgnore this scam! They left message on my wifes cellphone! Scam! Scam! Do not call, verify, or provide any information! Scam! Be aware! The IRS always communicates via certified mail and never displays as unknown caller!
- Caller: unknown IRS representative
- New York, NYJust got a call from 202 751 2541 with a recorded message, female voice threatening that it is the final call from IRS and a law suit is being filed against me. During summer'14 there were similar calls from a 202 area code, different numbers, leaving messages with the same content. I have filed a complaint at that time. Clearly, the attempts for scams continue.
- Caller: 'On behalf of IRS'
- New York, NYThis follows my message above. The phone number 'caller ID' of the 'IRS robot agent' who orders us to call the 202 number, was 714 201 4276. I dialed that number and the automated response was 'the number is out of service'.
- New York CityI just received a call from a number listed as: 710-201-8276. It was a woman's automated voice telling me that the IRS was "initiating a lawsuit" against me! The voice told me to call: 202-751-2541. I panicked a bit and called the number but just heard strange beeps and then a dial tone. I went online and found this site!! It made me feel so much better. I also know that the IRS contacts people by mail if there is any issue. These scam artists are scum!
