I was told to call them before I was arrested for tax evasion and tax fraud.  I could not understand where he said he was calling from because of his accent.

There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers in both Canada and the USA.
USA tax payers should read this:
    http://www.irs.gov/uac/Tax-Scams-Consumer-Alerts
Note particularly the links at that site, warning of the scam!

I got a call from 202-751-2543 about owing the IRS money and that I would be getting picked up at work by the county sheriff for tax evasion.  When I got mad the man hung up on me.

I received a call today from 202 751-2543.  The woman had a thick accent (Nigerian?) & said her name was Vivian Sanders.  She said she was from the audit department of the IRS & that there was a legal petition, against my name, regarding tax evasion.  She said the sheriff's department would arrest me if I did not answer to the petition.  I kind of thought it was funny.  My caller i.d. indicated the call was from a "private number" which was my first clue that this was not a call from the US Gov't.

Report the Calls to the real IRS here:
•report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 800-366-4484.
•You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at FTC.gov. Add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments in your complaint.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $60.00 or so.

I just got the same call, with a man with a Nigerian accent, telling me exactly the same things he told you. the number that came up on my Caller ID was just 1378 and nothing else. what a scam!!!  I hope everyone and anyone who gets that call knows immediately not to call the number they are giving you because you never know what will happen next once you return the call.
Scammers - they should all be arrested!!!

She actually left a voice message!  I ignored the out of area 1378 that appeared on caller id and really didn't expect a message to be left.

Arrest these scammers, where is our government when we need them in instances such as these. Please everyone, file a complaint with the IRS and the FTC or innocent people will continue to be hoodwinked out of hard earned and much needed income.

Vivian Sanders has had a couple of active days calling people with the same IRS scam. I do wonder where they are getting these phone numbers? All you need to Google is "IRS scam" and lots of pages show up. I pay my tax accountant big bucks just so that there are never errors on my return. The IRS does not call people on the phone, they send out a letter and you darn sure would meet with an auditor first if there was any question about your tax return. Unavailable or private called shows up on caller ID when they call. These are very likely robo calls to blocks of people trying to sucker someone into giving out personal information and sending money. If they are "Unavailable" I will be too.

I just got a message today, June 27th 2014 ,  on my answering machine from a number 202 751 2543 claiming they were the IRS and that I was guilty of tax evasion. I called them, they were very rude and said that as I didn't answer to a letter that had been sent to me in March (that I have of course never received) ,  they will send the police to arrest me. They were rude and yelling at me,  not at all what an IRS employee would do. They had a thick Spanish accent. I told them to send me a letter as I didn't understand what they wanted; I also told them that the IRS wouldn't contact someone through the phone just to tell them they will arrest them.  They hung up. I called again to tell them that I had seen on internet they were a scam. They hung up.

    They forced you how?
You asked for a letter before or after you gave him the alleged $5,000?
Do you really believe that someone who works for the IRS would need to yell at you to make you do anything?
How do you know they were from Nigeria, that they were in this country and need to be sent back, and most importantly when did you figure out they were Nigerian?

You really need to go back to writing school and pay attention the next time they have the class on "How To Write Fairy Tales".

As W. C. Fields once said: "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. There's no point in being a damn fool about it."  Well since you posted twice already, if you post again ...well I think we can all figure out what that makes you.
