They're a scam.  The caller says you have a problem with you computer and they can fix it if you give them access and pay.  They implant a virus and they continually shut you down every 3 to 4 months so you can pay them to fix the problem they ceated.  They're pretending to be microsoft.

These people have called from this number and others that only show 3 digits in the caller ID. They say they are from some Technical system support company and that my Microsoft OS is reporting errors to their technical support desk. Every time I ask what computer they are monitoring they say the one I am using (I don't have a personal computer-only work). When I ask them to verify what OS I'm using they can never answer. When I badger them, they get irritated. I've asked repeatedly for them to put my number on a do not call list. They say they are unable. They all have an Indian or Middle Eastern accent. It is quite frustrating. They call several times a day some days and always more than once a week. The number this time was 202-768-7680.

They claim to be from Microsoft.  I tell them 'Great, did you send my new windows computer- they act confused and hang up.'  I figure that if they have the time to screw with me, I might as well send them some of their own scam.  DO NOT CLAIM TO HAVE A COMPUTER, and hopefully these idiots will get caught!

Yup, just received the call.  Same as above, computer is downloading stuff and they wanted me to access it to fix it.  I told them not to call again and that I am on the do not call list.  He then kept asking my name and number to remove me from the list but I said you called me, my number is all you need, then he hung up.   Scam, scam, scam.

Have received over a dozen phone calls from this number in the past 24 hours. They will not let up about "fixing my computer", claiming they are from Microsoft and that my computer is down loading unnecessary files and spam. Total scam avoid, avoid, avoid!

Probably time to buy a call blocker device, app, or phone.
Google "call blocker" to see the various types, and find one that best meets your needs.

I got the call today with same foreign accents and they were from "apple" today and it's about your computer.  I said "really, I call bs on this."  Then I blew my police whistle in the phone.  This is the second time I have gotten to do this! The first time they were from "microsoft".

Thanks!  I didn't know I could do that.  I am sick of these calls.  The next time they call I am going to tell them I have turned 202-768-7680 and 917-200-9423 numbers over to the police.  There are a bunch more long distance numbers on my caller ID but they are political surveys which are a pain too!

They wanted # of my computer.  Played along and asked how much money but they insisted I have a number they need.
Said you are trying to rob me you so and so etc. They called me back to say I was the son of many fathers.  Must be a middle east insult.

I've had lots of calls from this number. I haven't answered any. I did answer a similar call last summer and when I told them the computer belongs to my husband and he isn't home, they asked that I have him call. I sarcastically said I would. The  caller became irritated and told me my husband was his lover. These people are scum. They have several different numbers they use to make their calls. Too bad there isn't something that could be done about these calls. Not just for my number, for everyone's.

I was called today about noon Central Daylight Time.  As far as I know, this was the first time I was called by this particular scam outfit.  I was called by a different scam outfit twice recently, once in August and again just five days ago.  They both used the same general proceedure, but with minor differences.  They first convince me that my computer is infected with a wirus.  Yes, this guy said "wirus", over and over.  I replied "a walrus?" the first time.  Both scammers did the convincing by having me run Windows Event Viewer and looking at the long list of warnings and error entries.  The other one also had me look at a long, meaningless CLSID number from the Command Prompt to convince me that they know my computer's ID number, because they got it from Microsoft.  They claimed to be a company in Lawton, Oklahoma named "RV Tech Solutions".  Today's callers were not so forward with a company name.  After talking for some time, while pretending to be waiting for my modem to reconnect to the Internet, I asked him his name and his company's name.  He gave his name as "Harry", but was evasive about the company name, eventually saying it was "Windows Solutions".  After he handed me over to a second scammer I asked him the company's name, and he said it was "Windows Technical Department".

They wanted me to run a program from the Internet called "TeamViewer" which would allow them to control my computer remotely, so they could fix the problems they showed me.  Without saying so, I downloaded the program and disconnected from the Internet before running the program.  It tried to get an ID number and password for me to give to the scammers.  I decided to go ahead and get the ID number and password, but then disconnected again before giving the numbers to the scammer.  I hemmed and hawed about going back online for a while after that before he finally gave up on me to go on to the next mark.

Except for one time when I was unclear about whether or not I was online at the moment, I never lied to them.

Ideally, I'd like to have a computer set up just to handle this scam, so that I could safely let them take control of my computer and see exactly what they do with it.

The "Call Type" is "Tech support scam", which is not a listed choice.

I forgot to say that today's call claimed to be from Santa Clara, California.  I asked the first man I talked with where he was actually located, or at least what part of India he grew up in, but he wouldn't budge from his story.  Even though the Caller ID showed a Washington DC area code.
